Only have about 200 miles on my 01 so I am not used to it yet and hadn't made any spare keys. First tried cutting a section of thin metal banding and putting a notch in it. While I could reach the lock section, I had no luck in snagging anyhing. Cars got a lot harder to do this than in the 70's. This is the one with the slightly extended cab and the windows that tilt out. Next I covered the paint with masking tape and went in through the top of the back passenger window. This time I was able to snag the latch and open the window. Found a 3/8" steel rod about 5'. By making two bends in the rod, forward and down, I was able to push the electric lock button. If you are ever stuck, this is something you could do with a broonhandle and a coathanger taped to it. I got by without scratching the paint or damaging the molding.

I don't know if you guys have a sliding rear window, but on my '97 I can break into my truck in about 3 seconds with a coat hanger. I had to do it twice and once borrowed a woman's little kid in a parking lot to crawl in and get unlock the doors (left the keys in the ignition. It is really frightening how easy it is to undo the latch on a sliding rear window.

how do you get out of, and lock your truck, with the key FOB still in the truck, and not in your hand?

Yeah. On my truck by exiting on the driver side the power lock button will not lock with the keys still in the ignition.
Unless he pulled his keys partially out to stop the blasted chime. The chime meant to remind you your keys are still in the ignition :-P

I thought most vehicles had gone to the interlock that prevented electrically locking the doors with the key in the ignition. I have chimes for headlights on, but no chime for keys in the ignition. Maybe I have a key wire broken in the steering column of the 01. With the engine off, I hit the door lock the wrong way to unlock the passenger side.

at least you did not lock both sets like i did. had to call locksmith for 03dak. the locksmith said since daimler bought chrysler new designs incorporate mercedes theory of designing for better security i.e much easier to break into old mopars than new ones.

This was only a month after I got the truck and hadn't gotten a spare yet. Now I've got 3. Regardless, I had been sleeping in the truck in a parking lot in Missoula waiting for a target to open (had the ignition on accessory to listen to the radio.) Woke up kinda groggy, got out and hit powerlock like I usually do, and about 1/10th of a second after shutting the door I realized what I did. No biggy though. Like I said, sliding rear window's a cinch.

I tried fooling around with the key to see if I could get the buzzer to come on. If I press in on the key the buzzer will go off. Evidently it senses the tip. This is an aftermarket key and it appears that it wasn't pressed against the stop when it was coppied. Tried three places so far (all Axxess key machines)and none have had has this #19 blank. Good thing I got in. Left voice mail for my better half at 1 and when she got home after 7 she still hadn't checked her messages.

I would suggest following trest's idea, take the truck to a dealer, have them make a key from the VIN.
I've had many dups made on access key's at wal-mart and never a problem. You are right, maybe the one you have was cut incorrectly.

Actually I was sleeping in the parkig lot because was brother's flight that was supposed to get in at at 3:30am got delayed until 10 the next morning. I had already driven 200 miles to Missoula, and being the cheap ass that I am, just slept in my truck until morning, and the target parking lot was the nearest good place I could find. Plus I needed to get in that morning to buy a lighter (the only thing I forgot for our camping trip) I don't play video games and I'm not married you bastich.
