Message: My brother was driving his 99 Dak today when he spun a little 180 turning around on a dirt road. Right after the truck straightened out he realized he had lost his power steering.
I have never seen a pump go like that. Any idea what the problem is? I only have a few options: faulty rack & pinion, pump, line blockage, etc.
I was planning on doing a few tests Monday, but I thought I would throw this out on the board first to see if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Message: that it's not just a broken/thrown belt? Only reason I ask is... you lose that belt and you lose more than just the power steering. Most critical... you lose the flow of the coolant.
Not tryin' to be a smart-ass... just verifying the obvious first.

Message: Yea...that was the obvious check. Belt is good, rack & pinion is clean, no visible damage. No leaks or damage anywhere. Not sure...must be a shearing shaft in the PS pump or a blown pressure seal or something.
