Subject: Chrome Wheel Skins IP: Logged
Message: Anyone tried out the wheel skins yet? I bought a set for my RT. They make a few different varieties for the Dakotas.
I mounted one of the skins on one of my spare rims. Nice tight fit and it doesn't look too bad actually. Thought I would try them out for only $65. Only problem is....the skin scratched up the wheel a good bit, even after putting electrical tape around the rim clasps. Any ideas?

Message: HAHAHA, i saw those. I'll probly get one, after I get all the mods I want before it.
They scratch your rims? Thats not good.....then again my rims have been messed up since i bought the truck used so oh well. How do they clip on? Does it clip onto the back?
Also, how long have you had them, and how well are they made? I'm interested, if they arnt junk.
For $65 plus shipping, ill take those skins on and off whenever I want, to give my truck a little better apperance whenever i want.

Message: Amazing, I thought the same thing at first. But I talking to a Dak owner and I asked where he bought his chrome R/T wheels. Then he told me they were stock rims...with chrome skins.
Quality seems pretty good...but you can expect so much for only $65. A member on the Delphi RT forum has a set with pics...let me see if I can find it.
I am suprised I bought these...I f'ng hate ricer cheap rinky junk like that in general!

Message: I saw a set on EBAY, but i'd guess there's more elsewhere.
Those skins do look good. I really dont have the money for new rims. I also dont want a permanent chrome rim either, because It'll get all scratched up on rough roads. This is a perfect solution for those who just want a temporary flare to their truck.
Phew....that R/T is hot too. One day I'm gonna throw a 5.9 in my Quad Cab. I like my truck too much to give it away and buy a newer R/T.

Message: Well, I put my skins on today. I have to say, I am pretty darn impressed. I am running a 275 wide tire so the lip is not even noticeable. Had two compliments already in the last two hours. "Sweet chrome rims, man. Where did you get them?"
"ohh...bought them online somewhere" ;-)
Hopefully I will have some pics up soon...
I hate ricey, and I expected these to be that way...but I was suprised...Can't go wrong for $70

Message: I checked them out, sorry but I wouldn't do it. Sounds like you f-up a good set of wheels with scratches.
But hey, what ever turns you guys on. If everyone liked the same thing that would suck.

Message: If you aren't careful they will scratch the stock rims. Easy fix, we already have a way around that. The 5 or 6 clasps that grab on to the back of the rim will gouge the inside of the rim before they lock into place.
What works best is to file down the corners of the clasps. The clasps are square and a bit pointed on the corners. Rounding the corners is the first step. Then you wrap the clasps in electrical tape. This gives a tighther fit with no scratches.
