Subject: Mopar or Amsoil Synthic? Differences? IP: Logged
Message: I'm going to change my diffeential and transfer case fluid to synthic for the first time.
If I go to the dealership they use Mopar synthic.
If I go someplace else I'll have to bring my own - Amsoil.
Is there any great difference between Amsoil and Mopar synthic?
Thanks

Message: Mobil is their factory fill synthetic and their non synthetic is Mobil drive clean. I`d assume their gear lubes are Mobil(Exxon Mobil) too.

Take the AMSOIL to the dealer or mechanic and have them
install it for you.
AMSOIL is truly the better of the two due to the higher quality
base stocks and the 30+ years of experiance that AMSOIL has in
producing nothing but synthetics.

Message: Dex, I'd just ensure that whatever you choose is a true synthetic and not a blend or synth-wannabe.
I don't know what the Mopar stuff actually is.

I do not recall looking at the base stocks for the Mopar differential gear lube (I believe it's made by Chevron Texaco). I know that ATF +4 is not a true synthetic because they use Group II and Group III base stocks. A true synthetic uses only Group IV or Group V base stocks.

SOME DODGE DEALERSHIPS NOW CARRY AMSOIL !!!

V8 Forum --- Subject: New Chrysler Product?!
Message posted by Sephiroth:
"I went in to have my brakes checked today, and when I walked into the garage the first thing I saw made my jaw hit the floor. My local dealership now uses and sells AMSOIL products!! They've got it posted on a big banner over the service-desks. GM may not have been able to get it for their 'vettes, but obviously Dodge was able to, or they found out how awesome it is and started buying at regular price! When I go in for a tranny-filter, fluid, and gasket change next week, it's getting filled with AMSOIL."
Sephiroth went on to state:
"This is at the Raleigh, NC dealership, Al Smith Buick, Dodge, Mazda. I told the guy at the desk I was astounded to see them using AMSOIL and that I had been using it for a while now. After he rode in the truck he said he'd be switching next oil-change in his Ram.
As for me, I've got it in the engine, and I'll have it in the tranny soon! Next up are the differentials. After that I need to get a dyno just for curiosity's sake. IF I get 3-5hp form the differential, and God knows how much from the engine and tranny, that'll be enough without any heavy mods. Well, for all I do anyway. If it is a significant gain, I'll post the results."

I have had many requests asking for locations where Amsoil can be "picked up" rather than delivered via UPS. Many Retail Stores carry Amsoil (and so do many Dodge Service Departments), but it is difficult to obtain an address list since they often operate as Independent Amsoil Dealers, Commercial Accounts or "On-the-Shelf" Retail Locations, and there is no general directory.

Message: Greetings all.... My first post here. Just acquired a '90 Dakota about a month ago... so I'm just learning about this truck.
Just yesterday, I dropped the differential pan on mine and after a good cleaning, found a beautiful little rear end with posi in mine. The 137,000 miles on the clock have been very kind to this truck. Mine took about half a gallon of 80W90 Amsoil Synthetic along with a dose of their posi-additive.
I also helped out with the flush of the tranny. (A local Amsoil fellow I signed up under a few years ago in the Seattle area). The fluid came out quite clean, the pan had only a little bit of junk in the bottom. I don't know the complete history of this truck, so I wanted a baseline on things. The filter was changed out and after flushing (including the torque converter), it's got a full load of Amsoil's synthetic tranny fluid. I've put just over 100 miles on since the maint. work and can feel a difference in the tranny. It's more crisp when it shifts and the slight chatter I was feeling at times is gone.
I've been hearing of full size trucks/autos that are equipped with fluid temp gauges running about 22F degrees cooler with the Amsoil synthetic fluid.
In my opinion... ya can't beat the performance/protection for your vehicle with a load of Amsoil synthetics.
My '90 Dakota LE is 2WD, Ext-Cab, 6ft. bed, 3.9V6. I've got a bed cap on it and a Rhino lining too. When I acquired it a month ago, it was getting about 10 mpg. I'm up to 16.5 mpg with the last tank full. I've done a tune up on it, changed the oil, flushed the tranny, changed the diff fluid, re-packed/torqued a F/wheel bearing, and ran a can of "Seafoam" with the last three tanks of fuel, then changed the fuel filter. I'm about to do the front brakes/rotors,wheel bearings. Then I'll do the rear brakes and repack the rear bearings... install some "Speed-Bleeders" and then flush/bleed the master cylinder. Once I have all the "must dos" done... I'll be lookin' for some other "upgrades"
My other "car" is an '84 Hurst/Olds (firm believer in the synthetic oils) which I bought when it was 2yrs. old and had 9,000 miles on it.
I also have a Honda Valkyrie (motorcycle) which I bought "new" 3.5yrs. ago. It now has 96,000 miles on it and lives on Amsoil synthetic oil/final drive fluid.
I'll drop on by from time to time to see how things are. I've started to love this little truck over the last 2,000 miles I've put on it. I'm hearing that with the regular "TLC" maint. done, this combo should be good for about 300,000 miles.
