Message: My '95 CC 4x4 3.9L Auto now has about 144k miles on it. I bought it with 39k. I just had a diagnostic test ran (I'm having issues with rough idle sometimes and bad gas milage) and it checked out fine. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
I've had no major issues thus far, knock on wood. IT's a very reliable truck.

Message: Tranny probs since I got mine at 36k (now has 56k)... I've heard if you buy a shift kit (fairly cheap) before you get any problems you can prevent it from occuring. Other than that, no trouble.
Dan M,
Check your O2 sensor(s)...rough idle and bad gas mileage are the two classic symptoms.

Message: Josh,
I already replaced the o2 sensor. This was occuring before and is still occurring after the change.
And I've had no issues with the transmission yet.

Message: Well that bites...lol
Mine's currently having problems with running really bad after stopping for a short period of time (ie. getting gas) and then starting it back up and driving off. It misses really bad for about 2-5 seconds and then no problems. Hasn't affected my gas mileage though. I changed my ignition coil and it still does it so I'm guessing it's my fuel injectors, but I'm not replacing those quite yet...especially if I'm not positive they're the cause. lol
Ah well...don't wanna hijack this dude's post so I'll shut up:)

Message: I think the 4.7's have pretty good transmissions in em...I'd just watch out for the balljoint problem mainly.

Message: The 4.7 is a good engine, all of the magnum engines are. The 3.9 is the 4.7 minus 2 cylinders. Alot of people here have them and seem quite happy.
If i could do it over, i would get the 4.7 instead of the 3.9. Nothing wrong with the 3.9 other than it's not a 4.7.

Message: Don't you mean the 3.9 is a 5.2/5.9 with two less?
The 3.7 is built off of the 4.7 (I think) never seen one of those yet.
But deffinitely get a V8 no matter which one.

Message: Yeah...if you got the extra money, get a V8. From what I been hearing, the V8 guys are getting almost the same gas mileage as us V6 (3.9L) guys.
And yeah, the 3.9 is a 5.2 minus 2 cylinders...not a 4.7. lol

Message: If you do a search for 4.7 problems I'm sure you'll find a whole mess of posts. I own a '00 4.7 and as of yet(80K miles)I haven't had any major engine issues. I do have a noisy valve lash adjuster and some weird sparatic knocking every now and then(can't seem to find the source), but otherwise SO FAR I'm good.
The 4.7L does have a history of premature oil pump failure, head gasket failure, Hydrualic valve lash adjusters getting noisy and severe sludging causing major engine failure. The sludging seems to occur regardless of how well it is maintained. If you go for the 4.7L buy some Auto-Rx and flush the engine with it. Even if it looks nice and clean. The oil ports are very small and are prone to clogging with a minimal amount of sludging.
The 4.7L does come with a better automatic tranny that to my knowledge has no real substantial # of failures. I did have some shift programing issues with mine when it was new, but they were fixed under warranty and have never returned.
With the 5.2, 5.9 you get a history of reliablilty that the 4.7 can't claim yet, but they also have there share of problems. The tranny is a VERY common issue as is the belly pan gasket. The 5.2, 5.9 have many more aftermarket parts available for them. The 4.7 gets better gas mileage and I think is more powerfull than the 5.2.
Other than that........
