Subject: Stick slips out of 1st IP: Logged
Message: I have a V6 5-speed 4x4 and every now and then when I shift into first (say, after a stop), the stick just kicks out.
I've been told that it could be the engine mounts. Dealer said that b/c he couldn't recreate the problem (it's on & off), he couldn't do anything.
Anyone else have this problem? Is it just me? I swear I know how to drive stick...

Message: Funny you mention that. My tranny has mildly ground into first twice now, and almost stalled the engine sitting at a standstill with the clutch to the floor. At first I thought the clutch needed adjustment, but that doesn't make sense because the catch point would be higher, not lower. Only does it once in a while, but at least once daily for the past couple days (just started). Odd...
Heck, I just posted so I could get an email when someone answers the thread. I'm completely useless this time. :-)

Message: My truck did the same thing! I took it in the dealer 4 TIMES. They said they could not recreate the problem. Finally at 9000 miles I told them that the trany needs to be looked at and you are keeping it until you can recreate the problem. Well 2 days went by. No fix. I called Detroit and complained. I did not get off the phone til they got me a rental. Funny enough they recreated the problem the same day. Come to find out the syncros were shot. It did it from day one and got worse. At 9000 miles it would do it multiple times in a day. Bucuse they waited so long 1st and 2nd were toast. They were only going to rebuild the tranny. I said oh no. I want new. I brought it in 4 times. Maybe if you would have fixed back then. But I demanded a new. I probally got rebuilt.
Sorry for the rant.
Problem on my truck:
slips out of first when I put a load on it from a stop.
.......1st and 2nd syncros were shot.
Fix:
Rebuild the tranny.

Message: Great....I've been hoping that maybe it's in my head, but now it sounds like something I need to deal with. How do I get a dealer to look at it if they can't recreate the problem? How would I get them to look at the syncros? (What the heck are they anyway??) I'm about to go out of warranty!

Message: I posted a message about this about a year ago, and got only one response. I'm glad there are a few more people this is happening to. Where is the TSB on this you mentioned - I couldn't find it. I've taken it back to the dealer twice and they couldn't make the truck slip out, instead they decided to blame it on my driving. :)

Message: I'm not having a problem with it slipping out of first I'm having a problem with it going into first. If I'm sitting still it sometimes gets hung up and doesn't want to go. This just started happening so I have no clue anyone else have this problem. And shifting to another gear first and then trying first again doesn't work.

Message: WHOO HOO! They are finally going to fix my truck, only took 3 trips to the dealer. A new TSB was issued in March to solve this problem, it's something with the shift rail and the detent spring (I have no idea what either is, but it sounds good). Hope this helps!
