Message: I am considering buying a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, and
would like some feedback on what year is the best to buy
with the least problems. I understand every vehicle has it
problems, but I really like the Dakota. I am considering
anything from 2000 -2003. Thanks for any replies.

Message: as far as engines, get the 4.7.
Don't get the 3.9. The newer 3.7 would be a good choice for you, but it may only have been in the 2003 and laters, I don't know, don't care.
I have the 4.7 and Love it.
If you can drive one comfortably, get the manual transmission. They'll be hard to find used though, in a quad cab.
I drive a 2001 4.7, 5spd manual, Quad cab, with a bunch of extras. It's an awesome vehicle.

Message: Some minor differences between those years, but nothing so major I'd base a buying decision on anything but the best deal. I didn't know you could even get the six in a QC, good idea to stay away from that. Most of what you'll find should be 4.7 or 5.9; I think the auto tranny behind the 4.7 is better. No problems with my 4 speed auto ('00), some of the guys with the 5 speed autos say they hunt gears sometimes.

Message: Hey, I'm selling my 01 Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.7L. it has 58k miles and over 5k dollars in extra accessories. email me if you're interested. It's a great buy, never off-road, I was building a show truck, but ran out of money, isn't that funny how that works? I've got pics now, too.

Message: I've been looking at Quad Cabs too. I have driven the 4.7 with a 4 speed auto, 5 speed auto, and 5 speed manual. Either 5 speed seems to feel a lot stronger than the 4 speed. I can also tell you that the '03s and newer have a transferrable 7/70 powertrain warranty. Before that, it isn't transferrable. Also, I asked a similar question and I was told that the '03 and '04 models have bigger brakes. I hope this helps.
