Subject: ? Enegry Suspension control arm bushings IP: Logged
Message: Finally ripped apart a control arm bushings at 139K on my 00 CC and am going to install a set of Energy Suspension bushings, sway bar bushings and anything else I can get that's urethane for the front end.
For the guys that have installed these before, what special tools are required to install the bushings, or do I need to take the control arms to a shop to have the lower bushings pressed out/in.
I am also looking at a set of ES front sway bar bushings which are supposed to be either 28mm or 30mm for the 97-01 Dak, but the sway bar measures 33-34mm or 1 5/16", has anyone run into this before?
What is the best way to get the old bushings out of the control arms, drilling, torch? Getting the bushings installed isn't a problem, but getting them out is usually a pain in the azz. Comments, tips or a rundown on the easiest do the job would be appreciated ;)

Message: I'm into this right now, I just ordered new upper arms and the ES bushings, due to a ball joint failure issue... I don't think I'd recomend heating it with a torch unless absolutely neccessary, you could weaken the metal of the control arm if not careful. You should be able to find a shop that can handle it, Napa service shops will handle loose parts, most Shops like sears or pep boys or places like that usually wont touch stuff like that.... Dealership would be my advice, as they would be the most likely to have any needed specialty tools... I'll check back here, once I recieve the parts I'll let you know what I get into in swapping them out....

Message: Matt, did you order the complete control arm? You can get Moog ball joints instead of getting the whole control arm. Stealership told me the ball joints had to be replaced as a control arm assembly 2 years ago, but 99 upper and lower balljoints worked fine in my 00.
I just ordered ES control arm bushings, ES sway bar bushings and a Belltech rear sway bar. Too busy to put it in this week end, so it's going to wait 2 weeks. Went with the Belltech because I found it for $115.
Looks like the rubber middle section of the upper control arm bushings can be melted out with a torch, but the lower bushings need to be pressed out/in since they come with the outer metal sleeve attached.
