Message: I've asked before and got no response. Locally I checked with a rearend guy and he suggested a used chrysler lsd. He priced it at $500 installed. (Joplin Missouri) A guy can buy a DANA trac lock unit for $180 -but I'm not sure it would be a simple job to switch.

Message: I installed a Powertrax No-Slip in my 2001 QC 4X4.
About $500 CDN.
Cheaper and easier to install than a LSD and no clutch pack to wear out.
2 years ,no problems, 85% paved road/15% dirt road driving.
I put it in to remedy the dreaded one-wheel-spin on take off.
Check out their web site for details.

Message: I put an Auburn limited slip in my truck also. I love it. I did the swap when i did my gears so i can't give you a price. I've heard that the auburns are pretty indestructable.

Message: hey hammerdak, where'd you get the Powertrax (installed) for $500 CDN? I am in Ottawa and am desperate for LSD (careful). I bought a Chryco Sure Grip only to find it didnt fit (tried to save money only to loose it). If I can get what you got for 500 bucks, then let me at it. Please dont say Candian Tire....

Of course I got it at Canadian Tire, where else can you find top quality aftermarket parts......
No seriously.
You made me have to get out the old receipts to be able to respond to you accurately, no problem, but I was a bit shy on the price.
National 4wd in Burlington On. for $625.00 in Dec/2002
Also I installed it myself with a friend who has worked on a few derby cars .
His know how gave me the confidence to try it myself.
The unit come with great instructions. If you can change you own spark plugs it's not beyond your skills.
Although it is intimidating when you've never worked on a diff. before, as was my case.
Remember to specify the size of your differential ( probably 9.25 inch, but check you glove box to be sure )
Good Luck.......

Message: Hmm. I too am planning the swap when I get caught up again.
I want to switch to 4.10's from my 3.55's and throw in a LSD or something at the same time if I can do it all at once.
Switching the carrier is not hard. It's setting the damn new ring and pinion that sucks. I've only done a little of that and not on my daily driver that TOWS 200 miles at a time!
It does suck that LSD was not standard. I bought my truck off the lot, or I would have specified gears and LSD of course.
When I DO get the chance to do it, I'll take pics for the site as I've done with the rest of my mods. {Click on my banner below).

Message: Canadian Tire, whose president is Angus MaCanick, is a fine establishment of automotive paraphanalia. They were the first to give customers bonus points, called Canadian Tire Money, way before anyone else did it.
Now they have their "performance" stores called Parts Source. I wonder what they would charge for a PowerTrax unit?
I would be fine installing one of those. I already had most of the rear end apart replacing the wheel bearings and oil seals. $600 is still pricey though.
I hate seeing the American prices, getting all excited, and then doing the math to see what we poor Canadians will wind up paying. Rule of thumb is: US price X 2 = Canadian price. What ever happend to free trade? We gots lots to trade: take Celin Dion for example - please.

Message: Parts Source has divorced itself from CDN Tire , although there is still some management overlap.
The public perception in the early going was that it was basically a relocated CDN Tire auto dept.Too much Motomaster merchandise.
Now instead of being a Saturn to a GM parent , Parts Source is like a Subaru , or Toyota....still talking to each other but doing things on their own, and doing it better.
I know, blah, blah, blah.
By the way, you'd have to spend close to $15,000 to get enough CDN Tire money to buy the Powertrax unit, if they sold it. ...LOL........

Message: HA! I love it. Let see how many 5 cent bills do I have .....
Actually the Parts Source that opened near me in Ottawa is pretty good. They have a resident smart guy there who treats people like people, not trying to talk down to them. He's helped me a few times.

Message: Hey, I work at a Canadian Tire! I'll have none of that! :-)
J/K. I do work there (licenced auto tech), and I know CT has a bad name. I just bought a '91 Dak 3.9 auto 4x4, and it came with a LSD rear, factory (!?). I checked when I pulled the tranny, both rears rotate together. Crappy part, no A/C.

Message: Noltz, no disrespect I assure you, just trying to be funny. If it wernt for CT, I dont know where I'd be. Its always the first place I go when I need a part. Also, what would I do with my Saturday afternoons? Between CT, Home Depot and Princess Auto I would have nothing to do.
Oh yeah, and Parts Source, now that they are so close to me...
Keep up the good work, it isnt nearly that bad.
