Subject: Normal 4wd activity? IP: Logged
Message: I decided to test my 4x4 today on my 04, I was in the middle of a field, figured why not, it is wet so figured I would try. the 4hi dosn't even blink it just goes in (is that normal) fine and when i go back to 2wd goes right back to it. And the 4lo blinks for like 10 seconds (yes I was stopped in N)hear all the noises, and bam i am in 4lo. and disengage works the same way abck to 2wd. So I guess my question is, is 4hi suppose to blink the same way, or just switch over?

Message: truckin,
The blinking is the computer ensuring the conditions are right to make the shift to 4hi or 4low. It is awlays easier to shift to 4hi because you are not changing any gear ratios, just engaging the front wheels. For going to 4low, the transfer case has got to lower the ration dramatically, this take a much stricter set of condtions. So it will be normal to take longer to shift to 4low. And the loud clunk when going to 4low is just shifting gears, not a need to worry. Tells you it is engaged. Oh yeah, it may take longer or shorter times for your transfer case to shift, nothing to worry about.

Message: Yeah I was just wodnering how to be sure it is engaged, since the light doesn't blink between 2wd and 4hi, it just switches right in and when i disengage it switches right out. I might be over analyzing. I tried it on a muddy dirt road this morning behind work, it handled good.

Message: When it is blinking it is waiting to engage the new gearing, ie. 4hi, 4low, or 2hi. It is engaged when the light is not blinking.

Message: Yeah what I am saying is
2wd-4lo: blinks for 10 seconds hear noises and then 4lo is lit (same for reverse)
2wd-4hi: the 4hi just lights right up no blinking or noises (same reverse)
The reason I am asking, is casue on my Sonoma it would blink with either 4hi or 4lo before engaging.
