Subject: AirAid w/ tube anyone?
IP: Logged

Message:
Anyone out there have the AirAid Quick Kit with the tube on a 4.7 V8? Chip at AirAid said that the tube makes the system VERY loud. So loud that the 3 he has sold lately have been returned. So loud that the buyers said they could not carry on a conversation in the cab while driving.
Anyone w/ experence add your 2 cents. I was thinking of the tube to add to my Quick Kit since I added a 3" BL and now the stock hose is "Z" shaped. Chip said the tube should work w/ the BL, but if it's that loud.......
Are the other tube replacement intake kits that loud on the 4.7's.
Oh, by the way...a kit specifically for the 04 4.7's should be out in a month or so. The 03 kit needs a bit of modding to fit.

A couple of points:

1) You could replicate the Airaid tube with ABS and Fernco couplers (1 90 degree and 1 straight).

2) I would not think that the intake noise from the Airaid should be any worse then any other air intake with an open cone filter.

I used a Volant air intake for about a year and took it off this spring. I'm not a great fan of intake noise, so I moved back to the stock filter box with a tube from the filter box to the TB. Note that the intake noise from the Volant was only noticable at half to full throttle. Some like that noise, some don't.

If you are willing to spend $10-15 on 1) above, you can answer your question pretty quickly.

That really was my thought too (create my own). I was just wondering about the noise level. I'm going to have the local exhaust shop bend me a 3" tube out of 3" aluminized tube. My other concern is for the sensor in the intake tube. How do I mount it?
So one more question...the noise was not really present at cruising speeds, around 1700-2200 RPM?

In my experience, at cruise, the intake noise with the Volant wasn't noticeable.
