It's just a gimmick. Everyone gets so jacked up on oil this and oil that. Mobil 1, amsoil, castrol, whatever. Amsoil may be better than Mobil 1 but the differences are so small that the average person hardly knows the difference. All synthetics are awesome oils. Most mineral oils are awesome. It's all in the maintainance of your car. To get all you amsoil guys started again,.... Royal purple is the most widely used oil for engine build and drag racing with all the hi po shops around me. Many guy who race a ton swear by it. I use it. Synerlec baby!!

one has to wonder as to the why in this case, of Steve ripping a new one on every product that does not have an AMSOIL name tag on it and getting defensive as all heck about his own.

case in point:

"I do not have to defend Amsoil. Amsoil is recognized as one of the TOP Synthetic Motor Oils in the World. Amsoil spares no expense when it comes to additives, selecting the most robust additive packages on the market. These additives keep AMSOIL motor oils shear stable, resist the degrading effects of varnish and sludge, keep engine components clean and deposit-free and effectively resist rust, corrosion and foaming."

as per Steve, but yet since he "does not have to defend AMSOIL" ya just gotta wonder why, starting with his 8th word and every word after that, he does just so.

Amsoil ... over 30 years in the industry and not one FTC complaint, fine, etc

Dead men tell no tales eh Kemosabe?

What is next from Castrol ... a "Drive Like A Granny Oil", for vehicles that are only driven to church on Sunday's and never over 40 mph?

is a perfect example of Steve ripping a new one just because some one else has something different. Stay up late nights and weekends thinking up that one? The more he spews about it the more he sounds like a jealous rejected lover!

then he likes to refer us to the ""Dealers Only" section of the Amsoil Web Site," one problem jerk, unless you have a dealer I.D. you can't get in so that leaves the rest of us to only take your word on it.

To call an oil a "Start-Up Oil" or a "High Mileage Oil", or a "Drive Hard Oil", or a "Short Trip Oil" is still "pure marketing gimmicks".

so is claiming that a TRUE synthetic is better then an untrue one.

really, come on now,,,, for most of the guys out there they sell/buy, trade in or lease a new vehicle every 5 years or so, so that comes out to 75 to 90 thousand miles,(15-18,000 per year) my own personal truck is 7 years old and only 77,000 on it, my kids car is 8 and 89,000 and my wifes is 7 and 105,000 on it, to my knowledge they never have had any kind of synthetic in it and to date none seem to be using any oil, and none blow blue smoke. considering that I live in the rust belt and ALL of them are showing rust that will be fatal to the saftey of the vehicles in less then 5 years, why should I care if an oil change costs me 9 bucks in my back yard or 25 bucks each time I do it as the engines will be in good enough condition when the bodies are rusted out.
The only difference I as a consumer would see is that AMSOIL oil changes would cost me (assuming that over the life of the three vehicles I used them for a total of 400000 miles and change oil every 3000 miles) is that AMSOil would cost me $3325 in oil and filters and Sunoco Run Clean would run me $1197 for a life of the vehicles savings of $2128 which is more then enough "reasons" for me to stick to the dino oil.

Since I have now brought economics into the picture I would like to have you respond ONLY to the economic debate as to why you think that using a more expensive product would change my mind.

Even if I were to use your "extended oil drain interval" and go 5000 between changes (since most of my driving is short trips or city driving with very few hiway miles or in very dusty conditions with either extreme heat (above 90 degrees)or cold (below zero for weeks at a time in the winter) involved I do not find that to be advisable)I do not see your product line giving me a monetary advantage. even going out to 7500 miled between changes leaves your product as being too expensive at a cost of $1333.33 I cannot justify economically as far as out of pocket expenses purchasing your product.
Plus, since I mostly drive short trips, condensation builds up that needs to be drained out so the bearings don't rust and we live in a dusty area and a lot of that, does, over time, end up in our crank cases, and having moisture atracting dust with naturally occuring overnight condensation that never gets boiled off because engines never run warm enough-long enough is a recipe for engine failure at 40,000 like my brother had happen to him (new car went, 7,500 between changes and the mains and rod bearings were worn away to nothing) oh yeah, at least twice he used a synthetic, but had another brand in it when it went, so in my mind.......

First, I have recommended many products that do not have the Amsoil name on the package. Just do a search and look around. Auto-Rx Engine Flush instead of Amsoil Engine Flush for one ... IMHO, their product is better that ours.

Second, you asked me to ... "respond ONLY to the economic debate", ...

Okay ..... The Amsoil recommended for your Dakota is NOT $9.00 a quart, I pay $4.55 per quart for 100% TRUE Synthetic Amsoil SAE 5w-30 Motor Oil which is the same oil recommended for your Dakota. You too can pay only $4.55 per quart if you are an Amsoil Preferred Customer, otherwise it is $5.85 per quart.

Eight reasons you need AMSOIL for whatever you drive ... and not a GIMMICK OIL.

Today’s engines need the extra protection that a TRUE PREMIUM SYNTHETIC OIL offers. Here are eight reasons why AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils and Drivetrain Lubricants are number one for today’s enthusiast.

-- AMSOIL offers superior wear protection so that engines last longer ... but we DON't call it Drive Hard Oil.

-- AMSOIL improves fuel economy so that vehicles get better mileage out of every tank of gas ... but we DON't call it Fuel Efficiency Oil.

-- AMSOIL has been proven to provide more horsepower ... but we DON't call it Performance Oil.

-- By reducing friction AMSOIL helps engines run cooler ... but we DON't call it Low Friction Oil.

-- By reducing deposits engines run cleaner and perform more efficiently with AMSOIL ... but we DON't call it Drive Clean Oil.

-- Due to lower volatility AMSOIL reduces oil consumption ... but we DON't call it High Mileage oil.

-- Due to its low pour point and cold weather pumpability, AMSOIL makes winter starts much easier... but we DON't call it Winter Start Up Oil.

-- Because AMSOIL resists oxidation and breakdown, it reduces varnish and sludge which keeps valves and rings from sticking ... ETC., ETC., ETC.

Question ........................

Do you now get the point? All of our oils do all of the above. Amsoil is superior. We use the most robust additives package. We don't simply use "A" particular additive to provide the consumer with only "ONE" valuable benefit.

It should be obvious that everyone can save money extending oil drains using Amsoil.

By extending your oil drain interval and saving oil ... you protect the environment and our valuable oil supplies.

REDUCE AMERICAN DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL! ... Use Amsoil!

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oils are designed for extended drain intervals and reduce the amount of oil used by as much as 80%. Fewer oil changes means less oil needed and less oil used.

You Also Save Money on Fuel Costs With AMSOIL

AMSOIL should save you enough per year in fuel savings to pay for all your vehicles lubrication needs. Save enough per year to keep your vehicle completely protected with AMSOIL.

If you get an average of 20 miles per gallon and travel 15,000 miles per year you use 750 gallons of gas per year. At the present cost of unleaded gas ($1.85) in my area, you'll spend $1407.50 per year on fuel. If you can get a 2 mile per gallon increase (10%), your gas usage will decrease to 682 gallons or $1,262.10 per year.

That's a savings of $145.40 per year!

You can get your engine and transmission protected with AMSOIL for less. Even just a 5% increase, or one mile per gallon increase, would save $72.70 per year, which is enough to switch over your engine to AMSOIL for the year.

So you see, just the fuel savings vs. regular oil will pay for your AMSOIL. The benefits you will see from AMSOIL will be longer engine life, better performance, less repairs, less downtime, less wear on the engine, and your vehicle will stay newer for longer.

My personal experience. When I switched my last vehicle to Amsoil ... my mileage went from 16 mpg to 17.5 mpg ... between a 9% and 10% increase ... which is slightly better than average based on 30 years of testing by Amsoil. Industry tests have shown improved fuel economy of 2 - 5% in vehicles using synthetic lubricants.
However, it has been my experience that most people that switch see between 4% - 8% increase in mpg.

You would think that if starting your engine was
bad for your engine, some aftermarket inventer
would develope a add on oil pump to bring your oil
pressure up to almost normal pressure before your
starter is allowed to inguage.

With those million dallor racing engines, I would
not be supprised if something like that is
already on the market.

Maybe something for "Invent Tech".

sometimes I wonder if we make to much of a big deal over oil here.We are Big time dakota enthusiasts and we all want what is best for our trucks because we love them and want the best for them.We argue about which brand is better and the differences are proably so minute that it isn't worth arguing about. My neighbor blew my mind last week .We were discussing our trucks I also own a Ford ranger he has a Ford f-150 that has 400,000 miles on it he said the last 100,000 miles he has only changed the oil 2- times and has never used synthetic oil .I said wow that is hard to believe.

If Amsoil was as good as some people say how come it isn't widely used? I'm not saying it is bad oil at all. The amsoil guys write stories in their posts to hype up their oil. They will say they are just letting people know about their product. Like i said before Amsoil may be slightly better than Mobil 1. The fact that Mobil 1 is available everywhere makes it the best option for many people.

Amsoil AMS-Oiler™ High-Tech Oil Pre-Charger Amzoil
IP: Logged

Message:

RadioMan,

Interesting that you would mention "Pre-Oilers" or "Pre-Chargers"

End Dry Starts with the AMS-Oiler™

_____ _____

*** AMS-Oiler™ High-Tech Oil Pre-Charger ***

The needs of automotive and industrial equipment have continued to place increasing demands on the lubrication industry. Over the years, AMSOIL research and development has responded to changes in the industry by developing products that keep AMSOIL on the cutting edge. The new AMS-Oiler™ is the most recent example in a long line of top-quality innovations from AMSOIL.

Independent studies have concluded that engine wear during start-up is a major concern. Even though engine components remain dry for only a short period of time at ignition, when this circumstance is multiplied by the 400 to 600 dry starts a year by the average motorist, the potential for harmful metal-on-metal contact and significant wear is great.

The AMS-Oiler™ is an oil pre-charger that puts an end to dry-engine starting. Typically, an engine that sits idle for even a short period of time will operate relatively dry upon starting before oil is able to fully lubricate the system. In fact, the automotive industry estimates that up to 50 percent of engine bearing wear occurs during the starting process. Indeed, the superiority of AMSOIL motor oils minimizes start-up wear by clinging to the metal surfaces, but even more can be done to concentrate the oil on the critical wear areas in an engine. With the AMS-Oiler in place, 160 cubic centimeters of oil is injected directly on the engine bearings and other wear sensitive surfaces upon turning of the key, giving instant protection to vital engine components.

_____

*** Amsoil AMK-02 "stand-alone" Configuration *** _____

The AMS-Oiler™ outperforms gas and air charge systems. When the ignition key is turned to the on position, an audible alarm sounds while a 12-volt DC solenoid initiates the AMS-Oiler's operation. When the oil delivery process is complete, the alarm ceases and the operator can start the engine. The engine can be started at any time without damage to the AMS-Oiler™, however, the AMS-Oiler™ is recharged by the pressure generated by the engine's oil pump. Complete recharge is accomplished within 40 seconds. The absence of a gas or air charge eliminates the possibility of cross-contamination of dirty gas or air with the engine oil, keeping the oil pure and performing optimally. The design of the AMS-Oiler™ reservoir also protects the unit from ambient temperature fluctuations.

Specially crafted by AMSOIL technicians, the AMS-Oiler™ is the culmination of extensive research and development. “Our products are exceptional when it comes to reducing wear during operation,” said Technical Director Dave Anderson. “The weakest link in the chain, however, was still during startup. With the AMS-Oiler™, we’re closing that last gap.”

With an extremely rugged chrome plated hi-grade carbon steel reservoir and anodized aluminum base, the AMS-Oiler™ is crafted to withstand severe service and to perform reliably in any personal, commercial or industrial application.

Unlike other pre-charger systems, the AMS-Oiler™ has no bulky moving parts which need maintenance and does not rely on pressurized gas to function. The AMS-Oiler™ is a self contained, streamlined unit that has a mechanical life cycle exceeding one million engine starts, with no maintenance required. The AMS-Oiler™ is self-lubricating with an integrated overpressure protection device that protects units from retaining pressures in excess of 90 p.s.i.

_____ _____

*** Amsoil AMK-01 "bolt on" Configuration ***

In order to meet consumers’ needs, AMSOIL has designed two AMS-Oiler™ models to cover all applications. The first model, AMK-01, is crafted to attach directly to the AMSOIL Dual-Remote By-Pass Filtration Systems BMK13, 15 through 18. The second model, AMK-02, is designed as a stand-alone system or can be used in conjunction with the Dual Gard By-Pass Filtration System (BMK12). AMK-01 and AMK-02 are designed for pre-oiling engines up to 500 CID (cubic inch displacement)(8.2L). The AMS-Oiler™ retro-fit applicability to the AMSOIL By-Pass filtration systems provides a convenient perch for quick installation. The stand-alone AMS-Oiler™ mounts easily at any angle to accommodate virtually every engine.

With the new AMS-Oiler™, AMSOIL continues to make lubrication history, with quality still the number one priority.

Products Models

AMK-01, the “bolt on” configuration, is designed for use in combination with the BMK13, 15 through 18 Series Dual Remote Mount Filtration Systems.

AMK-02 is a “stand-alone” configuration designed for universal application. The AMK-02 can be used with any engine application and mounts at any angle.

AMS-Oiler™ Benefits
