Subject: k&n filter advice IP: Logged
Message: i have a k&n filter in my '03 QC and its starting to get pretty dirty now. K&n says not to change or clean it for at least 50,000 miles right? Ive had it in for about 20,000 miles. Go with manufacturers advice and leave it? Doesnt it seem as though performance can only be better with clean filter??!!

Message: You shouldn't have to clean for about that long is probably what they are meaning. If it's filthy, clean it.

Message: I clean mine once a year, wether it needs it or not. It helps me to sleep at night.
Be carefull not to over oil it. Remember what yours looked like when new? A very light pink, almost white.

Message: "K&n says not to change or clean it for at least 50,000 miles right?" Or more often if needed. They also say it will last 1,000,000 miles.
If it's dirty, clean it.

Message: Go ahead and clean it if you want to. You don't have to follow the K&N instructions to the letter. I clean mine every 20k miles. I also have the stock filter in case I have to drive the truck while the K&N is being cleaned. It doesn't take long to clean and re-oil the K&N but the stock filter is there just in case.
