Subject: Front Rotor Replacment IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I have 33k on my 01 Quad Cab 4x4 and it's time to replace the front rotors. Has anyone tried the SSBC rotors and pads (Short Stop... Slotted Rotor Upgrade Kit): http://stainlesssteelbrakes.com/products/detail/707/?make=Dodge&model=Dakota+4WD&year=2001
I've read some e-mails about PowerSlot both positive and negative so I was think about going with SSBC. Other suggestions based on experience would be appreciated.
Thanks,
George

Message: Yes, front rotors are a real problem on Dakotas. If you check the message board, you'll see that I'm not the only one with this problem.

George

Message: I had mine turned 3 times by the dealership before finalloy replacing them. Dealer replaced them on my 4th visit (12k miles on truck) and the new ones lasted until 71k when I upraded them and replaced the pads.

Message: I upgraded to slotted SSBC's a few months back and have been very happy with them. I have not had a single problem with them and my stopping power is definately improved. In fact, i'm considering their rear disc conversion kit for my next mod.

Message: George, I put on a set of Raybestos Superstop drilled and slotted rotors and Superstop pads about 6 months ago. Wearing very nicely and no problems with the brakes while towing. Picked them up at rockauto.com, I think the rotors were about $80 each and the pads were around $30-40
I drive about 30-40K/year and tow a 3000# boat 15-20 times each year. With the stock brakes I would have to turn/change the rotors after each summer due to warped rotors. I'v put on about 15K and towed the boat 5-6 times with the Superstops and the brakes still feel new.

Message: I wish George, I actually bought plain white box replacements for around $70 a pair and put them on. Thinking they were probably just direct aftermarket replacements but I have not had any problems or had to turn them yet and I just passed 99k.
