Subject: Rack & pinion or what? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1998 dakota clubcab sport 4x4.It has heavy duty suspension, shocks, electrical, service group and engine cooling.15x8 wheels with 31x10.50x15 tires and a hs9500 warn mounted on a black warn transformer. Also have 3.55 gears and a black powder coated uws tool box on a bright red truck. My question is this,on my spec sheet it says i have power rack and pinion but i thought only 2000 and up had this. What year did they start this? The rancho lift says it will not work with rack and pinion also, why not?

Message: 1990's
reason is the " rack " is mounted / fixed to
frame..
If you lift the suspension you would have to
custom extend the [ tie rods ] and probably
put a large ' shim ' above the { rack } to
line things up .
This would also affect the steering shaft.
If you understand this terminology , I think you
should be getting the idea ..
= DON'T do it unless you have considerable
experience modifying vehicles...
