Message: Ah..5 days past warranty
Last night the lights started flickering. At first I thought it was only the headlight/tail lights. The lights would flash very quickly,
at intervals of about 5 seconds, then stop for a few minutes then repeat the cycle. When the headlights would go out the odometer and the radio displays would brighten, and I could hear a relay click in back of the light switch.
Did some checking and found that with the headlights off the dome light and the light in the glove box would flicker. Whatever it is, it's tripping the headlight relay and looks like its thru the entire system.
Anybody seen this?
01' Quad, 4.7, 5 spd, yes the wiring harness recall has been "done".

Message: Sounds like the headlight switch is worn out and not making proper contacts anymore... That is the one thing that controls all the lights that you're having problems with.
Replacing it isn't too bad. You just have to remove the plastic dashboard trim and you will have easy access to the switch. An OEM replacement switch will just plug right in and you're good to go!

Message: I had a similar problem and it was due to water pump leak that sprayed water on to the alternator. when I changed the pump the flicker went away. but i also had a similar problem with the dimmer switch as well where the lights just shut off or flickered on and off completely went I had to replace the dimmer switch to fix that it was 20.00 at autozone and easy to replace

Message: You said it flickered in 5 second intervals, was there any pattern to the flickering? If not, then they're probably right it is a short. If there is a pattern you may want to take it to a dealership and have them to a diagnostic on the computer. Be careful if you've never taken it to a dodge dealership before, some places can take advantage of you and your wallet.

Update...
Just got back from the dealer and they agree with Dan. Diagnosis bad headlight switch, that cost me $40.00. They didn't have a switch in stock and ordered one.
I still have my doubts as to it being the switch. First the problem has gotten worse in that the interval between flashes has gone to about one second and is very regular. After getting back from the dealer I tried to lock the truck using the keyless entery...didn't work. Tried the other fob, it didn't work either. I am getting very concerned that this flashing or pulsing maybe damaging the other systems, especially the computer chips. I'll get the factory manual, replace the switch and see what happens from there.
Seems everytime I go to the dealer something else goes wrong.

Message: Happy ending or better than expected.
Took my dakota to a small local dealer to get a second opinion. Diagonsis bad CTU module. The service manual shows that there is no connection to any other circuits i.e. the keyless entery except thru the CTU. Module cost $220 and $80 labor. Since I was a few days past warrentee yet had only 33,000 miles they gave me the part and I paid for the labor. The nice thing is I didn't even have to ask, they just offered.
Somebody pays for those big shiny new dealerships
and its not going to be me..anymore.
