Subject: Too much pressure in cooling system IP: Logged
Message: Recently I have noticed (intermittently) my top
radiator hose is rock hard after the truck
warms up. Its a 95 Ram with a 5.2. What
seems to be happening is, Normaly as my
truck warms up a little coolant flows into the
overflow. When I have noticed the extreme
pressure the coolant level in the overflow is
the same as when the engine is cold. The
truck runs at 200 degrees all the time . I've
replaced the Radiator Cap, And Thermostat
And am considering replacing the radiator
thinking it might be obtructed. Does anyone
have any ideas on what might be causing this.
The pressure never builds up enough to trip
the cap but seems excessive to me, I always
thought a rock hard top hose was a bad sign.
Its sounds stupid but it almost seems as if the
radiator sucks in too much coolant as the
engine cools and can't let it back out as it
expands. Thanks.

Message: check the hose cold before you start the truck,
if its soft then start the truck and watch to see if the hose gets hard in a few mins.,if this occurs you may have head gasket or head problems.
if your running a 195 thermostat your engine temp would be in the 200 range
if all else don,t work take it to a radiator shop
and have them check the pressure in the cooling system, much cheapper than a radiator

Message: The cap I am using is stock mopar cap and it
is new. I ran the truck for 30 minutes with the
cap off and didn't see any bubbles in the
coolant. I think I'm going to have a block test
done on it. When I changed the thermostat I
did a pressure test and it held 15 psi for about
30 minutes. At first I thought It was a
Headgasket but its so intermittent,
Sometimes I can go a week or better with out
this happening. The block tester should be
able to rule out or confirm the Headgasket or
head right?
