 Subject: What tranny do I have? 2000 Dak Sport V6

I have a 2000 Dakota with a v6 auto. I read somewhere that It should be the nv3500 that they used for v6s and v8s. Just wondering if this is true so that I wont need to worry about my tranny holding up when I do a v8 swap.

the nv3500 is the manual tranny.
6.6 Lt. Big Block, 727 TF shift kit, 452 heads, edelbrock 750 cfm, .513/.513 284/300 crower cam, comp cams springs, comp cams pushrods, 1.5 roller rockers, dp intake, mopar ignition, mopar windage tray, dual exhaust w/ 40 series flowmasters, 4.10 gears, coilover drag suspension, approx, 3500 lbs

thanks for clearing that up. How strong is this tranny? and will it hold up? Sorry but transmissions are my weak area.

It should hold up perfect to a V6! The NV-3500 is the same size as the NV4500 HD but isn't built as tough. But it can handle a motor that produces over 300 ftlbs of toruqe.

the NV4500 is a lot bigger than the 3500... that's why Banks had to raise the tranny tunnel of the dakota they used for the sidewinder project.

it would work but probably not long if you tromp on it all the time. If you drive it like my wife, it would last forever.

I Seriously dout that Banks used a NV-4500 in the side winder project.
I think it was a aftermarket transmision like a Jet-610.

Well the center distance isn't by to far. 85MM for the 3500 and 109MM for 4500. But there is a 90 pound wight differnce.

i am sorry slim jim, while the 4500 is still bigger than the 3500, banks used the NV5600 in the project. I forgot that they changed them in 2002 in the cummin's diesel.
