Message: I had a 95 CC that would do that once in a while. I never found out what it was. The temporary fix was to slam my fist on the top of the dash. It would then work for days/weeks/months without a problem. It would always occur when I was on a trip (or something like that, anytime I could NOT stop and check it out). Since the 'pound on the dash' trick worked, my guess is it was a bad dash ground somewhere.

Message: there have been several other threads on this subject, you have a bad speed sensor in either the transmission or the rear differential. believe it or not that is your problem, do a autozone check and it will tell you which one, and is very easy for most guys to change.

Message: Yeah, sounds like a bad speed sensor, or possibly a bad wiring connection.
