Im sure this is old news to many of you, but on the off chance there's anybody out there who may not have thought of this and experienced the same issue I had: I got all four wheels balanced on my 04 QC 4x4 about three thousand miles ago to correct for a severe vibration between 70 and 75 mph both while coasting and accelarating. The vibration problem was fixed to the point where it was just barely perceptible. However, it was still there, and it started to come back after a few hundred miles. However, this time it was quite a bit less severe than before.
Back to the dealership for another wheel balancing, which made a difference, but much less of one that it did the first time. Thought it was lessened slightly, the vibration could still be felt at 65-70 mph.
I was all set to learn to live with it, as I know vibrations can be some of the most difficult issues to diagnose and it seemed like my dealership was ready to give up. Then when I was doing my hand wash at the do it yourself place last night just for the hell of it I took the pressure washer and gave the insides of both front wheels a nice, thorough hosing as Id heard sometimes when the insides of the wheels pick up lots of dirt and gunk it can make itself felt in the steering wheel. All of a sudden, no vibration whatsoever at any speeds. Unless Im going over bumps or ruts, there's no unnatural sensations coming through the steering wheel anymore.
My guess is it was crud inside the wheels that threw the balance off, and then the wheel balancing temporarily almost eliminated the problem. But the dirt that was still there kept throwing them off balance again, then finally when I removed the dirt the source of the problem keeping the wheels from staying balanced was gone and all is now well.
Finally, the truck drives like a 6 month of vehicle with less than 12 thousand miles should drive once again.
