Subject: Cold Air Intake IP: Logged
Message: I know this is a Dakota Forum, but I have a question regarding my Ram 1500 HEMI. Would I get much better gas milage if I install a K&N cold air intake system, rather than just a K&N air filter to replace the stock one. I know that a cold air intake will give me more HP, but what I really want is to save on gas. So do I get the same gas rewards with either filter.

Message: As long as you keep your foot off the pedal, yes. Most performance parts will give you better gas mileage if you drive normal. If you keep flooring the truck, you will get worse with the performance parts.

Message: I have an 01 R/T 5.9, I put the FIPK from K&N and noticed an increase in fuel economy... basically the engine is "unloaded" from sucking as hard to draw air in, frees up HP< gives better performance.... as long as you do as what the above post, by JFH... :)

Message: Just installed a OEM replacement filter from RAM and the increase in hp hit me in the face, suposedly 6-10 increase and I would say it's true! The motor definately feels free-er (is that a word?) and sounds happier. This is a no brainer!
Can't comment on milage yet, give me a week. Getting 15.6 now with the 4.7 CC 4x4.
