Subject: Cleaned TB now my gauges don't work IP: Logged
Message: I'm hoping to make some sense of this. The other day I decided to clean my throttle body, so i took it off as normal and cleaned it off the truck. I get it bolted back on and all with sensors attached, crank it up and the gauges don't work.
The illumination work but not the needles. I mean none of them. What could the throttle body have to do with the gauges? Is there anything near it I may have bumped into accidentally.
Any input would be appreciated.

Message: Did you get any cleaner in the sensor connectors? That could have shorted something in the PCM might account for no gauge readings. Blown fuse??? I'm just guessing. Sounds like something might be loose somewhere. Common ground?

Message: nah, i took the TB off to clean it so I know I didn't hit the connections with cleaner and I checked all the fuses inside and under the hood, they look good.
When you say ground do you mean the one coming from the battery to the block? or something else
thanks for the advice

Message: Look for a small " module " on the firewall
probable a two wire device = check connection
regulating supply to guages..
You may have ' bumped ' the connector when working in the area... ??

Message: I didn't see any module on the firewall at all.
It's a 97 dak if that helps V6
Do any of the sensors on the TB have to do with the gauges?
Also, resetting the PCM didn't work either.
Thanks

Message: I meant a common ground for the gauge panel. If they are all
acting up maybe their grounding point in the cab is loose or
wherever they ground at. They get their input from the PCM so
maybe something with the PCM is loose. It seems completely
coincidental to me that this happened. I would have the dealer
diagnose it personally.

Message: Hi,
I am having the same problem.
9/24/05 removed old wires to an aftermarket fog light. Only had the battery and ground with to remover as connections. The old switch was just disconnected and new wire run not connected.
Now none of my guages work. I tried a few things and they come one sometimes and soon go out. Even the odometer doesn't count up. All my indicators are lite up too (ABS, Fuel, Check engine, Brake, etc.)
I used a volt meter to test the alt. but that seems to be ok.
Two mechanics I know said look at the Alt. because it might be shutting down some of the guages because of a weak alt.
