Message: Can a dealer charge more than the window sticker price? I was trading in my dak cc and wanting to buy quad. After all was said and done the dealer gave me $23000cdn for my truck, which is higher than the black book price, but they added $3000 to the window sticker price of the new truck. Their reasoning was that the truck was in high demand and that it was brought in from another dealer. To me it looks like they are just making it look like a good deal on my trade in, but making up for it in the new truck price. Anyway, I just wanted some opinions.
Thanks.

Message: They will occasionally do that if you owe more than a your truck is worth. This way it "appears" as if they paid off your truck, when in reality they're rolling your remaining balance into the new loan..

Message: Go somewhere else, the whole point of the purchasing process from the consumer's perspective is to negotiate a lower price then msrp, not higher that's ridiculous. Quadcabs are becoming more common in supply not less.

Message: I can tell you that including the rebate($4500) I paid $7300 less than the sticker for my 03 4x4 QC in October of 03. (Sticker was $31300 and I paid $23800 USD)So even without the rebate I paid $3000 less than sticker. So yeah, if you weren't drastically upside down I'd say they're hosing you. But then we don't know the whole story so I dunno man. Good luck..

Message: You received a great deal on your truck Justi. I bought mine in 2002 and had paid 247500 with the 2500 rebate. Got_Dak. The $3000 fee for transfer from another dealership is bs, unless the dealer was located in New Zealand. When I negotiated for my truck, I just told them this is the price I wanted to pay out the door. I started at 10% below the MSRP, not their sticker price. I paid 8% under MSRP and that was out the door (tax, license, fees included). They still made money, just not as much. Be prepared to walk out and go late on a Friday or Saturday night, like two hours before they leave. They are much more agreeable after hours as they want to go home! Hope you get what you want.

Message: Dealer would sell you the truck for $60K if they could, they will take what they are able to talk you into.
Judd has the best tactic, don't give them the opportunity to make you stay there a long time and get you frustrated. At closing time I bet they would make the deal just to get the truck sold and 5-6 of thier employees out the door.
10 years ago I bought a car and I told the salesman they had 2 hours to sell me the car at my price. At the 2 hour mark the salesman was back "talking" to the sales manager, so I left. The salesman looked like he was running the Boston Marathon trying to catch me before I left their lot. By the time I got home, there was a message on my answering machine saying they would sell me the car for what I wanted.
I got my wifes car a couple of years ago and pretty much negotiated the deal over the phone, realy pissed off the salesman because they didn't have the advantage of thier high pressure tactics. I knew exactly what I wanted and they had the car, isn't the internet great! Car stickered at $25,500 and I was out the door for $22,100. The only thing I did at the dealership was test drive the car and sign the papers, no pissin around with the salesman trying to get the price down. It was kind of funny because I would call the salesman and interrupt one of his sales, he was the one getting irate instead of me.

Message: Good tactics, guys. Never be afraid to walk away; after all, its your money. One of the best suggestions I have to offer is to try to purchase late on the last day of the month. The pressure is on the salesman to meet the dealership monthly quotas. A cold Dec.31 or Jan.31 will work wonders and reward your patience.
