Message: Same 4.7 H.O. as in the GC - preliminary figures are 250 HP and 300 lb. torque. The bad news is that it will only be available with the A/T and not the optional 6-Speed manual.

Message: Keep in mind, the H.O. 4.7 will require Premium Unleaded Gas! At the current fuel prices, the few extra horsepower doesn't seem worth the extra cost.

Message: Am I the only one that noticed that that's only 20Hp and 10ft lbs of torque. Most of the guys that posted dyno's on the 2003 are showing 200rwhp that translates to 250hp at the crank. There isn't much H.O. in the H.O. Headers and an FIPK will produce more than that.

Message: I know that, but thats still a better starting point than the stock 4.7, look at it this way, if you start out with 20 more horsepower, think about where you will end up with other non factory bolt on performance parts such as headers and exhaust. In my mind, its better and easier to have a fast engine if what you are starting with is already pretty strong. anyhow, isn't that pretty close to what the 5.9 was putting out? i really don't know if it is or not.

Message: The HO has knock sensors so you can run 87,the ECU will adjust timing(with a loss of power of course). Plus the HO is built stronger the the reg 4.7,better for forced induction or a 150 shot. Plus it has the HO cams stock(seriously!). NICE!! And plat plugs, OMG I`m gettin me one!!!!!

If you people had any good common scence then you're find out that the new H.O 4.7L is rated at 265 HP and over 330ftlbs of toruqe.
Also this engine is so crappy if you drive off it stalls on the driveway. The H.O was built to with its increase HP was built to stall out on the road when you about halfway to your destination.

Message: Hey, were do you get off thinking that the H.O. 4.7 is 265 hp and 330 lbft, Can't you read? Strait from Dodges website "while the new 4.7-liter High Output Magnum V-8 further eclipses the competition in both power and torque with 250-plus horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. plus of torque." Nowhere does it say 265 and 330, better learn how to read before you start babbling and rambling on about nonsense.

Message: Only the HO has knock sensors. The standard 4.7 has no knock sensors. Yes, that's really dumb, but sometimes DC do really dumb things.
The two V8's for the Dakota in 2005 are rated at 230HP and 250HP. Not sure why, but the HO is derated for the Dakota. It still is rated at 265-270 HP in the Jeep. The 5.7 is an option in the Jeep in 2005 and 2006 for the Dakota.

Message: Dodge logic seems a little twisted. The 230Hp 4.7 actually generates 250Hp by the dino's we see here. Therefore the new 250Hp version probably is 270Hp. I just can't figure out why Dodge underates the Dakota all the time. Their tow ratings are the same way. What's up with that??

Message: to keep the competiton guessing is all. if you can advertise a low rating, and people test it and it shows more than that, don't you think more people will buy it? It may also have something to do with insurance and fuel economy issues.

Message: I still think they just want to sell more 1500's for $5000 to $10000 more. Price is something you don't see much in these discussions. A Tundra for instance costs as much as a Ram and dosn't perform as well as a Dakota for a lot less money. You'd think it would be a selling point for Dodge. Who knows??

Using that logic, Chrysler should be able to sell twice as many units if they advertized that the 4.7 had 100 HP!
Deerridge
I think the published HP numbers are accurate. All the Dyno's I have seen have been in the 190-200 HP range. Using 20% that gives 228-240, but the 20% driveline loss figure is just a rough guestimate. I see people using as low as 15% and as high as 25%. Pick a number. This can give a mighty wide variation of engine HP. I haven't seen anyone yank a motor and put it onto an engine dyno. This would be the only way to confirm anything, but to me the numbers are close and thats all we can expect.

Message: STS makes a good point, I would assume the 2005 Dakota h.o. engine is basically identical to the Jeep h.o. engine in terms of power output, however due to the different measurements on the dakota (i.e. longer driveshaft) and any possible new emissions controls, the final output of the engine may be slightly less (5-10hp) but not significantly different. I venture to guess they'll rate it at 260hp and 315lbs/tq
