Subject: Dodge Powerd Mitsu? IP: Logged
Message: Was watching a car show on ESPN and saw a concept for a Mitsubishi truck that will be powered by our 4.7, that is supposedly slated for production. Any body know anything more about this truck at all?

Message: Prior to the new year, RUMOR was that Dodge was going to drop the Dakota. Mitsu was wanting to get back into the truck market and saw that Dodge was going to drop the Dakota. Mitsu saw this as an opportunity to get back in the small truck market and offered to build a "Mid-Size" truck based on the new Durango's platform. Then all the sudden, someone spied a 2005 Dodge Dakota and that ended all the rumors.
You can't rely on anything you hear or read. For example, I spoke one-on-one with a DC represenative and they assured me that there would be a 2004 R/T. I asked them how they were going to do this since they had stopped production of the 5.9L. He told me that they were putting about 2500 5.9's in storage just so they could have a limited (made to order) production run of the 2004 Dakota R/T. That obviously isn't going to happen. I even had this in writing via email confirmation.
Who knows if Mitsu will build a Dakota twin or not. I guess we will know when we see it.

Message: Wouldn't it be ironic, though; a Mitsu with a Dodge motor instead of the other way 'round!
Wonder if putting a 4.7L in there would cause it to smoke and rattle...

Message: Dodge doesn't own Mitsubishi.
Dodge is a wholly owned subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler, based in Stuttgart, Germany. Ticker symbol DCX.
DaimlerChrysler owns 37% of Mitsubishi Motors, a Japanese auto maker. This stock ownership is called "a controlling interest". It means DCX has a major say in who sits on the board and it means they can appoint the CEO. It does not mean DCX own Mitsubishi.
The statement "Dodge ownes Mitsubishi, have for quite a while now." is wrong. It's like saying "Chevy owns Pontiac".
The next Neon will be a Mitsu/Hyundai/KIA/Dodge common platform, likely based on the new Lancer, which is a great car. The first gen and second gen Neons are pieces of crap.
