Subject: Dodge is screwing me on the warranty IP: Logged
Message: A guy I know offered to sell his 02 Dakota 4X4 quad cab Sport truck to me because he needed a lower payment. He said it had a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty on it. I called the dealership where he bought it and they said that I would have to pay $50 to get it transferred over so I bought the truck. Today I tried to get the warranty transferred over and the Dodge Corporate office said that the 100k warranty was non tranferrable but the 70k warranty which it did not have was tranferrable. I now own an 02 dodge with 39k on the miles and No warrany whatsoever and I was lied to by the dealership. So, I am going to sell this truck immediately and you can bet that I will never own a Dodge as long as I live after this. I think I will probably go buy a Toyota or a Nissan and to hell with American vehicles after this experience and the last experience I had with my Blazer and Silverado. If anyone has any ideas on this you can contact me at (256) 922-3798

Message: Sorry this happened, but why didn't you call the corporate office
before buying the truck? You checked with the dealer and left it
at that. Did the dealer withhold information on you? Was he
being a dick?

Message: If Mark called the dalership and they said everything was OK transferring the warranty, why would he think he needed to double check and call corporate?
He got screwed by the dealership because they didn't know what the he11 they were talking about. I guess it comes down to getting everything in writing. If Mark told the dealership that he needed it in writing that they could transfer the warranty he would have some power to get the problem resolved or they would have cought their mistake. But then again, who's going to make the dealership put it in writing?

Dear Mark:
Thank you for your recent email regarding your used 2002 Dodge Dakota.
Please don't blame DaimlerChrysler Motors Corporation for a dealer
misleading you on a used vehicle. DaimlerChrysler Motors dealers are
independent businesses, and as such are responsible for addressing
concerns directly related to their sales departments, including their
personnel. DaimlerChrysler Motors has no authority to resolve disputes
involving retail sales agreements between an independent dealer and
their retail customer. I would suggest you pursue the matter directly
with dealership management.
Your dissatisfaction is regrettable, and I trust you will understand our
position. I hope this experience will not cause you to misjudge our
products.
Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention. Information received
from customers enables better evaluation of dealers' sales activities.
Your complaint will be retained in the dealer's file.
Thank you again for your email.
Sincerely,
Chris

As you can see, they are really concerned about my situation. Can you also see that they dont give a damn about what their dealers are telling people or how they are selling their cars? All they care about is getting the vehicles out the door, not the customer!

Message: Hey Mark,
Is this true with all ther Warranty's because I to just bought an 02 QC dakota with 16,000 mi. and the dealer told me nothing about a transfer fee nor that the warranty wasn't transferable at all. I even asked the dealer want kind of warrnty came with this vehilce and they told me it had the 100,000 mi and the 3/36,000 mi warranty and I did tell them I bought from a private party. They told me the warranty could be transfered as many times as the truck is sold and that the warrany just follows the truck. I think your getting hosed and I would be calling the Better Buisness Bureau and filling a complaint. Good Luck!!!!

Message: Well, Corporate is the one who said that the 100k warranty is non transferrable but the 3/36 is. What is the name of your dealer? Could I call them? Can you give me more information? If they will do it for you then they have to do it for me too as I see it. Could you send me an email to mhall@camber.com so that I could pursue this further?

Message: The 7 year 70,000 mile factory warranty is transferable ONCE (to the 2nd owner but NOT the 3rd) for a fee (like 150 bucks). Any extended warrantys that were purchaced are not unless specifically stated in the warranty. However you can buy an aftermaket warranty from many different places very simialr to insurance. Thats what I know about this stuff anyhow, but imno authority on it.

Message: The early 2002s had a 7yr/100K mi powertrain warranty that was not transferrable. Sometime during 2002, it switched over to being a 7/70, transferrable powertrain warranty.
It sucks that the dealer screwed up, but they should have known based on the VIN number, if you had it for them.

Message: Those 7/70 7/100 3/36 and whatever else Chrysler
offers in so called warranties are not worth the
paper they are wrote on, period!
All they do is jack you around or find a way out
of doing a free repair by saying you caused the
problem.
Tell me this, why would you want the dealer
replacing your defective warped brakes or ball
joints with more defective parts? You're a 100%
better off to do it yourself but NEVER let the
dealer touch it.

Also if your truck breaks down alot there would be more ducks for the rest of us. If this is ChampioN Mark sorry to hear about your trouble if it isn't this reply won't make any sense to you. Good Luck

I used to be optomistic about dealership service departments. It took me over 10 years to finally realize that none of them are worth a damn. I could write a book on dealership service department F^CKUPS! I have never taken anything to the dealer that something didn't get screwed up. They even screwed up an oil change. I will never take anything to the dealer again for as long as I live.

Message: Dont even get me started on my recent brake problems. Two different trips to the dealer for steering wheel vibration so bad you can see it from the driver's seat. Both times, truck was driven, brakes were measured, and I was told all was fine. Finally I made the tech pull it back out and take a drive with me riding shotgun. It took me waiting for him to hit the brakes so I could see the vibration and then grabbing the wheel and daring him to try to tell me with a straight face that he wasn't feeling the same thing I was for him to acknowledge I had a rotor problem and give me two new front rotors.

Message: I looked all through my posts and not once did I find where I typed "the truck is going to break down". I think you missed the whole point of the thread, the dealer lied to me and basically Daimler Chrysler wont hold them responsible. As far as trucks breaking down, I read that the Dakotas had transmission problems and I was going to keep this truck at least through the 100k warranty so I wanted to be covered.

Message: I agree with the feeling that dealerships suck. They would just assume bend you over and shove the truck up you azz than help you. Other than warranty issues I go to them for nothing. When my ball joints on my 02 dak go I already have a local shop picked out to replace them with moogs.

I dug up my old paper work, and guess what? In bold print it claims that the 100k 7yr warranty is extended only to the ORIGINAL Owner of the Automobile. Guess my local dealer doesn't really care, so I won't inform them either. Sorry about that, I could have sworn it extended but I suppose the fine print gets you every time.

Message: That really sucks Mark. A 3rd party warranty was mentioned. If you still want to keep the truck, you can purchase an MBI (Motor vehicle Breakdown Insurance) policy. They do have small deductibles (average of $100), and if you get the right policy, you're not limited to one or two garages. If you decide to do that, make sure that the deductible is per visit, not per individual repair. In other words, if your transmission and rearend go out at the same time, there should be only 1 deductible instead of 2 (one for the engine and one for the rearend). I know you were expecting the warranty to come with the truck, therefore included in the price, but an MBI policy would be cheaper than buying an extended warranty through a dealer. Your credit union or insurance agent should have these available.
You mentioned buying another truck. The Tundras are nice, reliable, and are every bit as quick as the Dakota 4x4s. The Tacomas are even more reliable. With a Toyota, you can get a factory installed supercharger and it will fit right in with the factory warranty.
The Nissan Titan is a monster of a truck. It jumps right off the line and keeps pulling. It's a big truck that feels as nimble as something much smaller. If your thinking about a Frontier, you might want to wait until September or so. The redesigned Frontiers should be on the lots by then and they come with a 250 hp engine. Probably not as much torque as the Dakota, but still respectable for a v-6.

Message: It seems like you guys are having a hard time getting warranty work!
I just bought a new '04 SXT on Monday and I have to bring it in for some work. I got such a great deal on it that I could not pass it up. I bought it and figured that Dodge should take care of any issues I have since it is still under warranty.
1.The dome light will not turn on...I assume they will have to fix this one.
2. Two of the wheel flares appear to be a little warped. They sort of bulge out at certain points. Maybe all I need to do is loosen the screws that keep them in place and push them in more? I will try to get Dodge to replace them first, though.
3. The tips of my speedometer and tachometer needles seem to be burned out. This is about 1/4 the lenghth of both needles. All of the other needles are fully illuminated. I would hope they will fix this since I am sure it will only get worse with time.
Aside from these issues, I love my new truck. It is great.
So...with all that said: Should I take it in ASAP or can it wait unitl my 1st service interval? I dont want them to jack me around saying that I waited too long or something.
Thanks!
Josh
