Subject: Bed Light & Power outlet IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I want to install a light and power outlet in my bed. I am wondering where the factory would hook this into the fuse panel. I am hoping to have it separate from the interior outlets because I will be powering a 12v fridge/warmer. They are low draw but i will also be powering my laptop inside the vehicle to run my GPS. I already have tapped my battery lug in the engine compartment fuse/relay panel for other accessories such as driving lights and a Ham Radio base and anyway would rather not have yet another set of wires running through my firwall. Also: What is the route that the wires from the factory take to get into the bed? Thanks in advance

Message: Ok, so I ommited some stuff... This is an '02 dakota quad and I have an ARE lid. There are plenty of sources for power, I know, but I want the factory source if it will handle the power draw. If not then I will use the factory power or negative to switch a relay to use another power source. so my biggest concern is where do the wires come from to get to the bed.

Message: There is no factory source for this kind of thing. I would tap it directly off the batter with a 6 or 8 gauge wire and a 20A circuit breaker. That makes it completly independant from the factory wiring. Just run the wire down the left fender panel to the frame, and then back to the bed.
If you want it switched, use a heavy duty Bosch relay.

Message: if vehicle was shipped with the trailer package there will be a "constant hot" lead in the trailer harness.it is for if you are towing a trailer with a battery charger or fridge or etc...
