Subject: What sort of tune-up (150,000 miles) IP: Logged
Message: My '87 4x4 3.9V6 Dak is not to far away from turning over to 150,000 miles. What kind of tune-up, things to check, could I do myself, and/or have a mechanic do for me? Things like 02 sens., EGR valve replacing, and things of that sort.
Thank You,
Dirty D

Message: What do you feel comfortable with? That is the true question. I usually do everything on mine except the remove and replacment of drive train fluid. That way if there is a weak seal they might cover the expense of replacement parts and labor if it fails. The rest I can feel comfortable with. Your service manual should have everything you should accomplish on the checkup.

Message: I would definately change the timming chain in addition to regular maintence items.Inspect and replace hoses, belts, fluids, plugs, wires, egr valve, pcv valve, cap and rotor if that engine still uses those items. Flush your brake system and cooling system.

Message: I may sound ... um ... dumb here, but what and where is this "egr valve"? Also, has anyone here had problems with premature timing chain problems? I have a friend with another '98 3.9 who replaced his in less than 50K miles. -tk

Message: The EGR valve(exhaust gas reciruclation) valve. It will be plumbed into your exhaust manifold and your intake manifold. Timming belts are normal replaced at 50,000-60,000 miles and timing chains are normaly changed at 100,000 miles.
