Subject: What is and what is not dual exhaust IP: Logged
Message: So many posts every day on this topic and I think many people don't understand what dual exhaust really is.
Dual exhuast is having an exhaust manifold on each side of the engine having its own dedicated pipe and (cat if needed) and muffler running all the way to the end of the vehicle. Now there may be a cross pipe connecting the two pipes in an H shape somewhere aft of the transmission but that is it as far as the two pipes ever connecting.
If you have a y pipe you don't have dual exhaust.
Just because you see a muffler with two tips on it means nothing.
And anyone who is crazy enough to hook two pipes up to the end of a single catalytic converter is not dual exhaust either.

Message: The main reason *true* dual exhaust is not seen
on trucks like it use to be is plastic gas tanks.
It's just as simple as that.

Message: Most "dual" exhaust setups are referred to as split rear cat backs anyway so whats the point? The bulk of all automotive stock dual exhausts are cat back splits. Whatever you feel about the topic doesnt matter because most of us simply refer to actual dual exhaust as "true Dual".
This is all just monkeying around with words anyway so why does this matter at all?

Message: gs motrosports sells "true dual" exhaust that looks like single out the side with dual tips! It is made by spintech. both pipes run down passenger side. I have dual exhaust. y pipe single cat flowmaster muff and two tips out the back. Difference between true dual, and dual.

Message: Hmm I figured the reason they stopped dual exhaust on vehicles whenever when is because it's more parts and costs more. Cheaper cheaper cheaper.
I posted this because some people just don't know and if they do know, then frankly they sound stupid referring to something being dual exhaust when it clearly isn't. I agree, you call it whatever you want and watch the wrong replies come to your question because you don't even know what you have. If some aftermarket company wants to call their product dual exhaust and all it is is two pipes that connect to the same muffler, well that's their problem but the driver should know what he has on his truck. It's not wrong to try an educate someone as to what is really going on.

etc.
none of it means $hit unless it's tuned. two pipes coming out the back is only for looks (i for one agree). a tuned exhaust system, regardless of its configuration, is the best way to go. i actually just have a single in/dual out flowmaster, yes, that means i don't have "true dual exahsut", but who cares, sounds cool, looks cool, that's all that really matters to me.
