 Subject: Ball joint repair under warranty?

I have a 2001 QC 2WD and I'm hearing noises from the
front end. I pray it's not the dreaded ball joint problem,
but if it is and I haven't hit 36K yet will this be covered
under the 3/36K warranty. Has anyone had any luck
getting it replaced under the warranty?

One thing to consider on this, unless they have redesigned
these ball joints, they are just going to put the same flawed
parts back in your truck even if it is covered (which it
should be). They can always inspect it and say don't worry
about it just to be lazy also. I hate the dealer... I replaced
mine myself for the peace of mind.

Mine are getting replaced by the dealer right now. I have a 2001 2wd with 74,000 miles on it and the dealer is replacing them under my extended warranty. My truck is lowered and they didn't give me any problems whatsoever. I guess it all depends on the service manager of dealership that you bring it to.

I had mine replaced under warranty at around 34,000 miles. Ball joints are not covered under your powertrain warranty, but they can be covered if you speak to them the right way about them. Imply the word Recall and give them the impression that you are fully aware that they are all bad and that you can prove it. They will usually cover the ball joints within the powertrain warranty. I had mine replaced and told them that if the news ones go bad in another 30k miles that I want them covered. They agreed in writing.

Dealer replaced upper right hand 2001 Q/C 4X4, 35,000km. Dealer said this is the weakest part of the Dakota, second weakest are the rotors, which they replaced at 13,000km. Dealer told me to come in before warranty expires, they may replace them again.

Seems my ball joints are just fine. However they replaced the sway bar stabilizer links. Noise all gone...
