Subject: Fumes from Vents IP: Logged
Message: For the past 1 - 2 months there are fumes that come from the vents when I start the truck after sitting for quite some time (3+ hours). I took it to the dealership and they want to blame this on the intake that I have. I highly doubt that this is the problem seeing that I've had it for about a year and a half now.
So I have installed the factory intake and still having the same problem. Any ideas as to what this could be? has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks for any replies.
I have a 2002 4.7 2wd CC.

Message: If it's a fuel smell from the dash vents, that means you have a fuel leak somewhere. The heater/AC system picks up it's fresh air in the cowl area, under the rear of the hood. After it sits for a while fuel vapor collect under the hood and are then transferred to the interior at start up.
Finding a small leak can be difficult, because the engine is tucked back in there. It doesn't take much of a leak to create a strong odor. Look closely at the rear of the fuel rails and the injectors. Use a small mirror to look behind everything. There's a dye you can add your fuel that lights up under a black light. I think Eastwood sells it. Another trick is to spread baby poiwder around and see what it sticks to.

Message: wow, thanks for the reply there .boB, I'm going to take it to a different dealer this upcoming Monday and see what they have to say (the dealer that I bought it from).
Thanks again for the advice as to what it could be.
