Subject: 4.7 Owners with Z-tube, Qs? IP: Logged
Message: 'When too big might be bad'!
Ok, just installed the IntensePerformance z-tube with their new Pro-Flow filter, 9 inches, looks like a big mouth.
Think I got a too big of a filter..it sticks out almost all the way to the grill but the left half of it is being blocked by some piece of engine
component, looks like a big heat sink (ok, so what is that piece?).
The right half is up against where the rubber flap in the grill used to be, so cold air is getting into the filter.
Should I send this filter back and get a 7 inch filter? The sides of the filter have free airflow, and looking inside the front of the filter shows a cylinder type shape, perhaps there is still enough airflow in the front from the unblocked side, to work as advertised?
BTW, gotta love the sound of a z-tube and flowmaster catback during WOT!
However, would you believe within 1 minute of my first test drive, getting onto a entrance ramp of a highway to really test out the install, I had a cop follow me, on the highway, changing lanes behind me, back and forth, then followed me off the highway, trailed me, then did a U turn to get back on the highway going in a different direction?
Figured he must be admiring my tonneau cover with sport wing and 3 inch chrome dual exhaust...I did see him talking on his radio also...bastard!
Went home, checked for leaks (also istalled a 180 t-stat), went out and then was able to enjoy multiple launches and WOT...great sound!

Message: The install was per directions, stock airhat removed, connected right to the middle front of the TB. I think with the new Pro-Flow 9 inch filter, the metal ends are longer than the older 9 inch Big-Mouth filter, hence the extended distance of the filter sticking out.
Re: performance gains, before the install, I had a Flowmaster SUV 50 catback and Jet II chip. With the z-tube, a Robert Shaw 180 t-stat and Autolite 3923s gapped at .040 were installed. The PCM was NOT reset, gas tank topped off with 6 gallons of 93 octane.
YES...besides that great sound, seems I launch into 2nd quicker with more ummph, thrust, whatever you want to call it...butt dyno feels it, get more of a sense of being pushed back in the seat, and 75-80mph comes real quick from punching it from 55MPH
I just had JET CHIP email me that resetting the PCM doesn't clear their chips programming, so tonight, I'll reset the PCM.

Message: Art, yes, I have A/C
What is your tube resting on, say about 1/3 to 1/2 way out from the TB, right over the engine block?

BTW, what type of exhaust do you have and did it seem that the z-tube woke up the exhaust, sound-wise?

I have AWD, can't seem to get the tires to chirp, will keep on trying.
The JET II went in the same time as the Flowmaster, they seem to have complimented each other..I'm gonna stick with 89 octane for a month, see how it performs.
I have a 4.7/Auto/3.92/LSD/T&H/Sport+, thinking with the Flowmaster, chip, z-tube w/9in Pro-Flow filter, 180 t-stat, and 3923s, maybe 25-30 extra HP, possibly 45-50 more ft/lbs of torque, if you believe the advertising...certinaly no slouch, none the less and it sounds great!
