Subject: Check Engine Light??? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 dakota 3.9 v6. I have repeatedly been having problems trying to resolve my check engine light. I have it put on the diagnostic machine and it says the code 420 and that my "catalyst system is below threshhold" I have been told that it needs either a new oxygen sensors and/or a new catalytic converter. Well i have recently put brand new of both on there and it just today the "check engine light" came on AGAIN with the same code????? If anyone else has any ideas on what can be the problem or if it has happened to them PLEASE let me know. ANY ADVISE WELCOME.
Thanks
Drew

Message: most likley the cat(like they never go)the downstream o2 sensor monitors cat eficiency and sets that code. That would be my call.do you have a cheap aftermarket cat.usually a rich running engine will burn up cats quick, hope that hepls

Message: I just had a performance cat put on there a few months ago and then the new o2 sensors not long after. I just dont understand how the cat could possibly be bad? I got the cat at midas and they were supposed to put a factory on for me but when they went to the back to get one they only had a 3" performance cat which was universal. Could the fact that it is universal have anything to do with it? I wouldn't think so.

Message: Yeah i think i will definetely do that. So you think it is most likely the cat huh? Is there anything else that could cause that same code besides the cat and the o2 sensors?
