Subject: Dodge Charger in "The Fast and Furious"! IP: Logged
Message: My god that was a awesome car. Did ya'll see how far that thing carried the front tires when it launched! I would love to own that car or a Charger like that! If I only had the $$$! I would even settle for a Hemi-Cuda! Anyone wanna take a guess what that Charger had in it? I'm thinking 440 with a Massive blower. Could have possibly been a Hemi. I thought the Shelby in Gone in 60 seconds was awesome, and it was, but the Charger wins the Crown in movies I've seen about racing, etc. 900 h.p and the 1/4 in 9.0!!!!! Dodge could definitly built them in that day!

Message: I haven't seen the movie yet, either, but I have seen on E! TV a 'behind the scenes' deal, and they showed the wheelstand from a different view. That car actually had a hydraulic lift underneath w/wheels, that moved the car up and down. So they could shoot some of it in slow motion, and the car still hold air... A little part of me died when i saw that the car wasn't actually doin the wheelstand.... Still SWEET ride..

Message: I bet it had the infamous 426 in it. And i dont care if there was a hydralic hoist in it any car that can do the 1/4 in 9.0 can lift the front wheels. After it rolled they probably had to stop filming to shut it of because it was still running. I havent seen the movie yet but i heard it beats a rice.

Nice guy, knows his stuff, and can build them pretty damn nice!

Message: The movie is great...I have seen it three times...I saw it about a month ago. The race scenes are really good. The supra is owned by craig liberman the director of NIRA..I know him personally..He bought the car for 17,000 and now he has a guy comming to look at it for 85,000. That is a pretty good profit for not having to spend a penny fixing it up. Everyone go see it and support movies about cars (it doesn't matter if they are rice or american muscle). I was told if the movie did good in the box office they would make a sequel. The movie only cost 39million to make and they made a lot more than that opening weekend...so number 2 looks good.

Message: First off screw the rice burners i hate cars made in asia. I serioiusly doubt that Charger had a Hemi or 440 just to tear up, when the guy said it ran a 1/4 mile in 9 seconds that was probably jsut a line made up in the script that doesn't mean that car did it, but i don't dobt a car with a blown hemi could. I imagine they used a small block on universal motor mounts and stuck a dummie blower on it

Message: Oh Dodge was the dominator in drag cars back then since they used the hemi engines. Wonder why Dodge stopped making muscle cars. Its funny how Dodge dominated back then, then they stop and when they pick back up again w/ the Viper wipes out all competition once again. Pretty awesome. Too bad Dodge doesn't make a muscle car thats affordable like the mustang, camaro, or Firebird.

Message: First, they are making a sequel called The Faster and the Furious or something like that, but it won't even start being produced till mid 2003 because Vin Diesel is booked till then. It is going to pick up at the VERY VERY end of the movie (after the credits), where Vin is driving in a red and white Charger, going down a dirt road somewhere in Mexico.
Second Chan is a Chinese name. So that group of racers are not Japanese.
Third. I liked only the two chargers that were in the movie. It was sad to see the black one go though. Just imagine what that thing could do with a good install of NOS though. Heh.

Message: Anyone notice how that Charger comes to a halt in the movie and when it takes back off, it's only smoking the right rear tire? 900 horsepower my hairy a$$$$....... Show me a ricer that can "melt the piston rings" (as Vin Diesel says after he wins the green car) and then drive back to the crowd with no smoke, etc.
Oh and while you're at it, show me a ricer that will hit 140 (from a standing stop on street tires) and then skid to a stop in the equivalent to the K-Mart parking lot.
Oh- let's find a 9-second Charger that will sky-jack the front bumper AND smoke the rear (street) tires at the same time, not to mention the fact that Vin Diesel is able to hold his head up straight and grip the steering wheel with one hand. ANyone ever seen in-car footage of Pat Musi or Tony Christian on a full-boogie run? Both hands on the wheel, helmet slap-a$$ back against the racing seat, etc......
If the director/producer had spent a little more time at the dragstrip, or even at a few more street racing venues (Chicago, Detroit, L.A., St.Louis), he would've had a movie that was worth a poop.
Oh Well.

Message: The red car at the end of the movie is an SS Chevelle (looks about 1970) not a Charger. The motor in the Charger I think was a hemi but I'm not certain (didn't make a note of it at the time). But even with a hemi, there's no way that Charger would do 9.0 in the quarter with all that weight.

Message: I own a truck -- a 4-wheel drive truck -- I still beat people in their "rice burners" on the road. That's because they have 4 cylinders under the hood and they don't understand that stickers aren't what makes the car go fast.
Don't get me wrong, the local kids who drive around thinking their tinted windows and custom graphics make their cars go fast are annoying, but the cars in that movie were BAD.
I can't afford to own a 4x4 and a fast car, so I chose the more practical and got a 4x4. If I could afford both, I definately wouldn't start with a Honda. I'd start with something like a '92 Stealth DOHC 3.0 AWD with Twin Turbos. True, they don't make as much for that as the Hondas, but that car would smoke 98% of the souped up rice burners out there while it's in stock form.

Message: That whole movie was probably sponcered by the enviromentalists that want people to buy 4 cyl.
I cant belive that in the end they make the chager motor brake and then total the car. And a 900 hp charger that has the traction to lift the front end like it did would totally distroy the ricer.
I hope the next movie is a rice killer.

Ramchargers Racing Team moved both the front and rear axles WAY forward on their Dodge Coronets to get better traction for the awesome Hemi - they'd pop wheelies quite easy, too. They blew away GM's and Fords and made history as the very first "Funny Cars"!
"Speedvision" channel has quite a few interesting documentaries on ALL the old muscle cars.

Message: As a new owner of a mild '70 Cuda 440, I fully expected to blow away just about every stock car I met -- foreign and domestic. Unfortunately I've been a little disappointed. I've raced my friend in his 1994 RX-7 (akin to a Japanese Corvette) and he beats me every time 0-60, 1/4 mile and top speed -- now that's a joke...his 160mph to my 132. Even the stupid Eclipse can give my car a run for the money (it wins 0-60 and top speed)
The point is that comparing a 70 cuda, or '69 charger to a new Japanese car is like apples and oranges. Musclecars really are dinosaurs and the best I can say about it is that it's pretty darn impressive that Detroit produced some exemplary cars 30+ years ago that are still competitive with today's technologically advanced cars. I wonder why they didn't pit a Viper against the Supra. (stock Viper blows away suped-up Supra)
The one thing that today's cars can't touch, though, is styling. My Cuda turns heads everywhere, while no one can tell a Supra from a celica. I'll take my old mopar anyday!
