Here goes, long strange one. When I start my 4 cyl (5 speed) '95 Dakota, the temp gage will rise to max in about two minutes. It will stay pegged for about 1 minute, then come down to normal. Same regardless of weather. Changed the thremostat, and two sensors. Any ideas? fan seems to be working, although it takes a whiel to come on. Thanks for any help.

I doubt that the water temp is actually doing what the gauge is telling you it is. Install a real gauge and see for sure. If a real gauge does not do that, then don't bother working on the engine. Work on the gauge circuit instead.
