Subject: Front Hub dust caps missing? IP: Logged
Message: 1999 Dakota C/C, 318ci, Auto tranny, 2-Wheel Drive w/Anti-Spin Diff.
Pulled my front wheels for a tire rotation (20,000 Miles) and noticed NO dust Caps installed on the front wheel hubs!? You can see the spindle, hub-nut, Cotter pin, AND the outer bearing! All exposed to the elements.
Does anyone else's Dakota have this "no Dust Cap" setup?
Am I missing something or are they ALL like this?

Message: Sealed front bearings, can't pack them, when they go bad you have to replace the hub assembly. Nice huh?
If you see the outer seal then your O.K., if you see the bearings behind the bearings seal, i.e. seal is gone, then this is bad.
Too bad the Dak's have econo-box front brakes, bearings and ball joints.

Message: yea dont worry about that all you see is the hub i believe they use double ball bearings and they are sealed and there is no adjusting
also the bearing is not visible from the outside it is behind the hub
