Z71 Off Road. It is one sweet truck and it's going to spank DC sales of the Dakota all to hell. GM's even priced it a few grand less that the Dakota. Seriously, it's head and shoulders above the Dakota and the S dime.

When the lease on my 01 is up I'm dropping it off and heading next door to the Chevy dealer. I'll never own a piece of junk Dodge product as long as I live. Between the brake rotors, ball joints, orange peeled paint, cheap interior and hideously uncomfortable seats the thought of driving another Dakota makes me want to puke.

No piston slap on this baby. No warped rotors, no defective ball joints, it didn't look like it was painted by mexicans with a foam roller, it didn't feel like you were sitting on your nuts, the seats weren't covered in pubic hair from a rat, the tranny didn't wail like a 50cent whore, the fan didn't scream like an F16...it was all good.

I understand why DC redesigned the Durango and made it bigger to compete with the Trail Blazer. Chevy is going to spank DC in the mid size market like a toe headed step child.

I don't even own a Dakota any longer, but the front end on that Colorado is one of the butt ugliest front ends I've ever seen on a 4 wheel vehicle. It makes my eyes hurt, I have to keep blinking them because it makes me think I'm seeing double. I'd take my old Dak back before I spent money on something that looked like that.

Looks like the front end off Clark Grizwalds Family Truckster station wagon from National Lampoons Vegas Vacation movie. I think they should have added a couple more lights or made them bigggggger.

Woo Hoo, stand back, the top of the line Colorado's got a 5 cylinder.

Guess all us Dodge boys better watch out, Ha Ha snicker snicker, fn give me a break.

It'll be even more SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET when the NHSTA orders der Daimler mit Chrysler to replace all the defuctive crap they've churned out for the past 8 years.

Then go buy your Colorado peice of sh!t with it's top of the line 5 cylinder and when you pull up to a stop light and a Dakota with a V8 blows the doors off the thing you can go cry on a GM board. Nobody on here cares about your opinion on the Dakota, everybody has different opinions. Dodge must have been doing something right with the Dakota because you see 10 times more of them then those little S-10 sh1tboxes.

Hmm, how hard is it to bore an engine and replace the pistons compared to replacing the ball joints or front rotors? Ball joints and brakes easily done in a day. Bore block & pistons a week if your lucky since the machine shop will have the block for at least a couple of days and your stuck doing the work your self and blowing 2 weekends or paying someone thousands of $ to do the job.

I would rather deal with a simple problem like the brakes and ball joints then be stuck with a crap engine that GM will never do anything about.

Would you rather be pissin and moaning about $500 to replace ball joints or $4000 to replace your engine?

The 05 is a COMPLETELY NEW truck, It won't have the bad balljoints problem the older Daks have.

Dodge also did finally got smart and threw in an extra set of doors for the extended cabs.

Brian, im sure the colardo will have warped rotors and short ball joint life. I have owned a few s10 4x4 trucks and all of them sure did have these problems. im sure the colarado will be no different.

Just for fun,(and to check out the competition)I checked out several sites showcaseing the Colorado. G.M. is marketing it as a bigger replacement for the aged S-10 platform. I have not seen one up close yet, but from the photos I have seen it still looks like a small truck. It looks good from the side but not from the front. A 97-up Dak still has the best styling to me. Some magazine tested a Colorado sport 2WD 5cyl manual trans and said it's a great sleeper. It should be. They said the model they tested weighed only 3100 lbs. I haven't found any performance figures, but I still think an R/T or a 4.7 should still barely edge it out due to our torque. I still haven't compared the literal specifications of the Dakota and Colorado, but I so far I think the Colorado is still a compact.

My '89 Sierra had sealed ball joints that failed before 30,000 miles. Just to make it more interesting, they welded the cam adjustment pieces on the control arms "so the truck would hold the factory alignment longer". Guess what that cost to repair. Or should I say, replace. "I'm sorry, sir, it's not covered by your warranty" I'm glad I had the 8' box on that truck. It sure came in handy to carry all the parts that kept falling off.

dodge isnt the only one that have problems with ball-joints. CHevys have and so do fords. The reason is because of the torsion bars which keep a lot of pressure and them and that's why they let go most of the time.

Go ahead buy a Canyon/Colorado and own a compact pickup in denial. Unfortunately its ugly, and a yuppie mobile, and its under powered, gas mileage sucks, and how do you even know if it doesnt have problems.... no one owns one yet. 10 bucks and a old set of ball joints says the Canyon is a flying bucket of feces
