Subject: OIL foam Update IP: Logged
Message: Well It's just about the end of the month meaning I had the TSB for the oil fixed by the dealor almost a month now. And so far I have to say no foam. So as of now the fix the dealor made has seemed to stop the foam from coming back.
next update is next time I cange the oil looking for foam again. Have about another 2000 miles to go before I do next change. so I would say mounth in a half if that.

Message: Jim (Don't) take the oil fill tube off.All you need to do is, take the oil fill cap off and in the tube, you will see what looks like a plug with a tab on it... just pull it up."That is there fix"the new ones from the Factory will have the peace that you pull out molded in side the new oil fill tube. You might have the new one from the Factory, but I don't think you will.I hope you understood what I was trying to tell you.

I was wondering, do you have a 2000? I ask because I have a '01 and I'm having the foaming problem? I looked but there is no TSB for it on the '01..yet. I'm thinking that I'll make a phone call tomorrow.

Message: Leftez--I have a 2000...Go to TSB on this board, you will find the part numbers you need.I live 40 miles from my dealer...so they sent the parts to me,I cleaned out the oil fill tube with a rag and put the fix in with the new cap.(Took about 5 min.)They have a new oil filler tube on the 4.7L and 3.7L coming down the line now.In my opinion, all they need to do is put the oil filler back on the valve cover.Fords 4.6L has there's on the valve cover, the two engines look alike.

Message: Bob I don't see the Plug your talking about. Thats not the fix they did on mine. They put on a totally new cap for the tube. The tube itself is the same one that came on the truck. I noticed htat when they did the fix. The cap was nice and new and clean and the tube still was loaded with salt from the roads. The same way I brought it in. The cap itself has a new seal around it and is no longer has a pocket in it. The cap has a piece in it that makes it look solid. Maybe different dealers fix it different ways??

Message: Jim the cap #53032389AC you have is part of the fix. The TSB calls the other part #53032126AA "baffle" .This baffle fits in the oil fill housing. If you do not have that baffle in your oil housing, you don't have all the parts. This baffle will pull out of the oil housing, than you will be able to look in to the bottom of the oil fill housing.Jim there is only one way to do the job right...you must have both parts.

Message: Bob Found the piece you were talking about. I must be losing it because I didn't even notice the thing. LOL. And after pulling it out I see their fix did a whole lot of nothing. Pull the thing out and theres still all foam in there. I Looks like the piece they put in just tries to hide the fact that theres still foam. I think I may have to call the dealor back and see whats going on. Unless you've talked to them and they told you something about it.

My truck has a manufacture date of 8-00 so I'm not sure when they started or will using the new fill tube. I pulled out that baffle and my housing was FILLED with foam! Can't see why as I drive to work and back everyday about 25 miles, can't say it doesn't get warm enough.

They say its no cause for alarm that the foam has to now work itself out. They said that the problem was the cap was to tight not allowing a moister to get out. They said to give it a few more weeks and see if it clears up. They also said after that it should be fine. we shall see in a few weeks I guess.

I'm not sure what parts they're ordering. They just ran the VIN and said that my truck fell under the TSB and they were ordering the parts. They didn't say what parts, just that they would call when they came in. But yes, I can pull out the 'baffle' in the oil fill housing in my truck. I'm not sure, but I'll update when I find out. Parts were supposed to be in 2.1.01, but no word yet.

Message: Yet another update...
I got back from the shop just an hour ago. Here's the scoop. Now this is a 2001 4.7, but the 'cheif' said that I had the correct cap but they put in the, I guess, new baffle. Part #53032126AA. About the only difference I can see between my 'old' baffle and the new one is the old one seemed bigger in the sense that it was...oh..longer? It seemed to fill the houseing more than the new one. Not sure what this is supposed to do but guess we'll see. The Dodge guy said that it was due to condensation which we knew and it was more or less a design flaw. Only time will tell.

Message: For it is worth, not knowing anything about the 4.7 engine, the shop manual for the 99 Dakota under oil level states: if oil level is above full mark it is possible for the connecting rods to dip into the oil with the engine running. This condition could create foam in the oil pan, Then goes on to say this oil foam would be fed into the hydraulic tappets causing them to lose length and seat noisily. Page 9-10.

Message: Had the truck at the dealers for the second time yesterday about the foam. They redid the TSB and also gave me a copy of the notice the dealers are getting. It says that the foam will not harm the engine. The dealer thinks that we will see the foam go away as the weather gets warmer. i tend to think the same since I have a lot of miles on mine already and I didn't see this problem until the weater got cold. All I know is I'm holding on to that paper they gave me incase something does happen so that they are doing a new engine (worst case) or fixing any problems if the foam is the cause of any problems.
At this point we can all sit back and say we are stuck with it and theres nothing we can do about it.

Message: hey all went to the dealer today and dropped of the dak the checked the part # against the tsb and the latest and greatest parts are instaled for the oil foam problem and the borascoped the engine(looked in it with a fiber optic scope)and said that the foam or milkshake as some call it was only found in the filler neck and that is the only place the have found it it any engine so far i dont know if there bull shitting or not but he said mopar was working on a new fix for the problem and that they have contacted him on this problem ( i believe this due to i raised so much hell at diamler over this and at 1 800 for adodge that they did call him while i was on the phone )so just raise a lot of hell and we will prevail on this / my serviv\ce rep said that they told him the faom is due to the location if the fill point and the materials it was made of and if they put it on the valve cover with the material that the used on the exesting filler neck it would still do the same things because of rapid cooling because of the alluminum heads and the temp differnce between the fill point so in laymans terms its a design flaw so raise hell and we will get a good fix soon.

Message: My 2 cents...still been cold here and after that last oil change, a very, very, very small amount of foam right around the edges of the 'baffle' when I pulled it out on the underside. No milk shake in the housing at all. I was in a hurry last time I changed my oil and went to a express lube place. I know that there is Penzoil 5W-30 in there, only because that's what the manual says is 'prefered' and I'm in that temeperature range. I'm not sure of the filter however. So far I'm pretty happy with the TSB fix for my truck. Good Luck all.

Message: Keep yelling Redbone I'm with you I know the service Manager by frist name and his assitance runs when I come back there to ask about new TSB for this darn 4.7.....
I will remind the manufacture I have a case number on this started at day one with only 500 miles when I did a oil change to put in my brand.
Still looking for some info about the Oil Filter TSB and what do you think about a oversize filter?

Message: Redbone thanks for spanking DC [good job].I have seen there new fix...the new Liberty 3.7L engines oil fill tube has the baffle molded into the oil fill tube, pretty smart of them, know one will be able to see the milk shake, smart hey.I think ever one must get it in writing, that it is ok to have a milk shake in there oil fill tube. They need to put there money where there mouth is! I want to know what the inside of the engine will look like in say sixty thousand miles.THE ONLY FIX IS FOR THEM TO PUT THE OIL FILL BACK ON THE VALE COVER.
Ever one keep on them.
Thanks Bob

Message: howdy bob the location of the filler realy aint the problem its the what it is made of that dam composit shit if they made it out of iron or alluminum it would be ok.that dam composit dosent get as hot as the block and the temp difference is what between the two is what is causing the problem if they put a composite valve covers on the heads you would still get mostiure in the filler so if they want to get rid of the shit in the filler they need to make out of metal instrad of a composite
