Message: Raynard,
It all depends on how the truck was taken care of.
Check the front berings and ball joints. Check the passenger floor board for any dampness.
After a vehicle hits 100k, Auto finance companies don't like to finance them so the price drops.
Check the truck out carefully. You may be looking at a good truck, you may not...

Message: I can't speak to the R/T in particular but I can speak to the 5.9. I have a buddy that has a 1997 Ram with the 5.9 in it. He just turned 211,000 miles and he has done NOTHING other than the routine maintenance that you'd expect. I know of another guy with 145k on his and same deal. So they could be the exceptions, or that could be that solid of a motor.
I will say that the R/T would scare me because most people that buy them buy them for the power, and people have a tendancy to USE what they buy!

Message: Smoking? Bad sign with only 97K. Sounds like few oil changes, or abuse. Tread lightly.

Message: White blue "puff" means failing valve seals and or guides.
If it smokes until operating temperature is reached, more than likely it will need cylinders honed and new piston rings.
According to the factory service manual the 4.7 has non-replaceable valve guides, when they go, you replace the head. I hope mine hangs together.
