Subject: big tires IP: Logged
Message: does anybody know what is the biggest size of tire i can put on my 91' 5.2 dakota LE. i have 15" rims and i hate the tires i have now, they have soft sidewalls and suck off road. i just don't want to get tires too big for the wheel wells and too big for the tranny to push. all help is appreciated.

Message: FFS is right. 31X10.5X15 is the largest that can be put on without modification. Even then, you'll need 15X8 wheels (you have 15X6 now if your wheels are stock, and the 31 tire is unsafe for that wheel). You'll need to trim one of the brake caliper bolts on both sides about 1/4 inch so it won't cut into the wheel, and you may need to trim just a little off your air dam. I've done it and it works OK. ('95 4X4) Now have 17" chrome R/T wheels with 275X60X17, which are about 1" lower than the 31s. Good luck.
