Subject: High rev at start-up IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 4.7 Auto 4X4, For the last couple months I have noticed that when I start it up first thing in the morning when it is cold, the engine instantly shoots up to 2K RPM's for a second or two, then mellows down to normal. It only does it when cold. I put NGK platinum plugs in a while back, and am wondering if they could be causing this. I don't want to cause any more engine damage, any info would help. Of course the dealer couldn't duplicate the problem.

Message: I've heard that platinums aren't good for the 4.7, but not sure if that is accurate

Message: My 2000 4.7 would do this occasionally, but not all the time. A couple of weeks ago, I had a tune up done on it, and it hasn't revved high at startup since. Just put the standard Champion plugs in it, and new PCV valve.

Message: Where is the PCV valve located? is it hard to replace? and are you happy with the champion plugs, most guys here seem to go with the autolites. I don't really care as long as they are smooth idling.
