Message: Ok...so heres the scoop!
I have a 2000 Dakota 3.9 ATX, it now has 33xxx miles on it.
At 30xxx miles the front crank seal was replaced for the 2nd time...
well, it leaked again..so i left it with the dealer all day.
They replaced it for the 3rd time!!!!
Now I get home, check it...its leaking AGAIN!!!! WTF!!
The standard warr was 3yr/36k miles. The truck was purchased in Feb of 2000, so its past the 3 yr mark...these last 2 times its been replaced free under warr because its still under 36k. So now WTF do i do?
I called them back, they told me to bring it in at 7am.....OBVIOUSLY the crank seal cant be bad all these times, somthing else has to be bad. Crank? block? who knows, i just dont want to get shafted here, because this is getting rediculous!
ok, more info:
-8/7/02 front crank seal replaced at dealer #1
-4/28/03 front seal replaced at dealer #2
-8/26/03 front seal replaced again at dealer #2
-8/27/03 front seal leaking and again back to dealer #2 so see WTF is going on.
Advise? Im the 2nd owner of this truck, and the first time it was replaced, was when the other owner had it.

Message: Dude, have the dealer fix it and sell that truck ASAP! Unload it while you can still claim there is some warranty left cause it's under 36k. Then go vehicle shopping again.
I have mine up for sale too, lots of problems with it. I'm getting a Titan. my .02

Message: Well I believe if you check any work done under warr or not by your dealer picks up a 12 month warr on that item. So even if your truck goes over 36000 the seal is still covered under the 12 month warr. Your dealer probably won't tell you unless you ask cause they would rather make a buck. That is not just Dodge but all manufacturers

Message: Here's my guess....
Crank seal leaked.... Tech cuts corners (flat rate warranty) and winds up nicking crankshaft during replacement.
Good luck getting someone to 'fess up to that...
If this is not resolved to your satisfaction,
get on the DC whiner line and explain your situation. There is obviously misdiagnosis of the root problem.

Message: Well, the dealership is replacing the harmonic balancer, the housing, seal and everything thats part of that seal up front. All for no cost. I guess we will see if this does the trick. I am going to be keeping a CLOSE eye on it for ANY leaks. If it leaks, the truck is going, weather I trade it in or it gets bought back. I love this truck, Its a SC SB sport that I debadged. 2wd, tinted windows, bedliner, tanaeu cover, and best of all....FIRE AMBER!!!! Gawd I love that color.
Annnnnnnyyyyyyyyywwwwwaayyyysss.....
Ill keep everyone updated...
I am going to get a new SRT-4 though...maybe this is the time... that will be Neon #5 at my place!!
