Subject: Power Steer. Fluid Recommendations IP: Logged
Message: Its the first time I need to add PS fluid (and brake fluid too) both just a touch low and I'm prepping for a long long road trip. Any recommendations? Brand name?Any other spec I should pay attention too (other than DOT 4 Brake fluid)? I may drain the systems and replenish so don't worry about mixing. What do you guys like?

Some P/S sytems require transmission fluid to be used.

Message: Ooops, sorry..
'01 4.7L, CC with AWD & Auto tranny.
My owners manual says do not use tranny fluid in the P/S. And DOT 3 in the brakes (?)...doesn't DOT 4 meet and/or exceed DOT 3?

Message: Unless you are looking to change to synthetic lubricants (cue the Amsoil sponsor...lol), standard P/S fluid is absolutely fine for your vehicle.
DOT-4 is acceptable as well, but I have never heard of non-high-performance applications needing it. DOT-3 will suit most all light duty truck applications.
And now...a word from our esteemed sponsor.
