So I'm hunting for some new tires for my '02 4x4. It has the stock 265/70/16 Goodyear's on it now (I hate these tires) and I'm really liking the BF Goodrich Radial All Terrain's. I was hoping to get a tire that is a little bit wider and I see they sell a 275/70/16. My question is, does anyone have these and what are some opinions? Better wear than the Goodyears? Road noise difference? Wet tractions? Snow? How do they compare to these POS Goodyears?

Seems the best price I've received so far is $1200 mounted and balanced. Before everyone goes off about the price, that's in Canadian dollars as I'm in Canada. Anyone in Canada purchase these tires for a better price? No opinions?

I have the 33" BFG's on my '00 4x4 and I like them so far, but I've only had them for a month or so. Only complaint is that they sling rocks kinda bad. Like you, I hated those POS Goodyears. Not sure if you have a Sam's Club near you, but that is where I found the best price on the BFG's. You also might want to search around in here and see if anyone has put on that size without any rubbing. If you haven't already done so, you could crank the torsion bars a little to give yourself some more room.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately no, there isn't a Sam's anywhere near here, in fact I don't even recall seeing a Sam's in Atlantic Canada. I was assuming that by getting 275/70/16's that there would be no chance of rubbing since the stock tires are only 10 millimeters wider? We're talking less than half an inch wider so I can't see any rubbing being a factor. I haven't touched the torsion bars as I sort of like how the truck sits now. I don't think there's any way in hell 33's will fit under a stock 4x4 without some rubbing at full turn. The 275/70/16's work out to be 31.3" in diameter which is quite a significant amount smaller than 33's. Thanks for the reply!

I do realize there is no way that 33's will fit on a stock truck. I have a 3" body lift and I cranked the torsion bars about 1.5" to get mine to fit and there is still a small amount of rubbing at full turn in reverse.

Not sure what the Canada exchange rate is, but $1200 still seems like a hell of a lot of $$$ to me. I paid $513 installed + tax for my 33x12.5x15's.

I know it is not much, but they will be a tad bit taller too.

Thanks for the website tip, I appreciate it. I did some research and the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's have some great reviews. I called around and it looks like I could be saving myself $250 by going with those instead of the BF Goodrich A/T KO's. Has anyone used these Revo's before on their Dakota? Some comments would be appreciated.

I'm curious to know where you got your H.O. Cams and H.O. Intake and how much they cost you. Did you do the install yourself and if so was it very difficult? I actually saw a thread on here where you said that you didn't think that you where going to put the H.O. intake on. What made you change your mind and do you think that it was worth the $$$.

I think the BFG's are over rated here. Of cousre anyone who buys something is gonna say I love them. I dumped mine and went to a smoother running AT for the road. I still use the BFG MT KO's for off road. I would dump those as well but Each time I change tires out and get ride of a good set I lose $$$. SO the MT's are for off road only where they belong.

BFG's have constant balancing issues. But they do look good so if you want the look then these might be what you want.

I bought my H.O. Cams from my local dealer. I have a buddy that's a salesman there and he got me them at his price which was $90 each and that's Canadian dollars so it was a decent deal. As far as the install goes, it was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined so I had no fear of tackling such an install. The only trouble I ran into was when I snapped off a cam retaining bolt due to a faulty torque wrench. All in all with an extra set of hands to help you out, you could do the cams in 6 hours total with the occasional piss break and beer. As for the intake, you're right, I didn't install the H.O. Intake. I guess I need to alter my signature because that's a homebrew cold air intake I created. It sucks in the cold air from the wheel well much like the stock system. The K&N filter is inside the hole going into the wheel well. I think I have one more bend than most homebrews. I have the two 90 degree elbows and then the 45 degree elbow to put that filter in the wheel well. It works out really well and doesn't suck ANY hot air from the engine bay. I installed the cold air intake first, then the H.O. Cams and then the MBRP Split Duals in that order. I noticed some really awesome gains over stock with this set up. It pulls a lot harder now and the exhaust note is awesome. What's amazing to me is most of the compliments and questions I get are from the older people, and I'm talking retired guys with old muscle cars. They love the sound of the MBRP system. Strange but it must have some retro sound to it. Also since doing these mods I've noticed that the cruise control is a lot better and engages smoother than before. The truck won't downshift on hills and other spots that it used to before the mods. The mods I have done were all definitely worth it and I highly recommend. I hope that helps.


So no one has used the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's? The BFG's are out of the question at this point I think because I'm not just going for looks here. I want a tire that will perform in rain, ice and snow as well as occasionally in the mud and dirt. From what I've gathered, the Revo's don't wear nearly as quickly as the BFG's. Anyone?

I would have bought the Revo's if I had not been steered towards the BFG's by this site and a few guys I know. I still think most here will say BFG.

Thanks Selcher for all the info. Do you know if I call the Dodge dealer, is there more than one choice for the H.O. cams? I have read some guys talking about cams from the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Is that what I need to ask for? You wouldn't happen to know the part numbers would you?

I put a set of the Bridgestone AT Revo II on my 01 QC about 4 days before a major snow storm in January - LOVE these tires and a lot cheaper than the BFG's. Less noise from what I have been told from other BFG users.
the Revo's have been great in mud, dry roads, wet roads and in general use.
Save your $$$$$ and get the Revo's over the BFG

The 285x75x16 will be the best size to avoid rubbing and will work with out the Body lift. They do not rub on the frame. I ran 33x12.5x15 on stock suspension for a year before I put on the Suspension lift. Off road I topped out occasionally after some minor trimming of the wheel well. Frame rub is a given since they are just to big for a Dakota.
The revo's in 285x75x16 will be perfect for Seltcher the original poster.

Thanks for the backup Julian on the revo's.

I advise staying away from 33x12.5x15 on a Dakota.
Unless you like the repair bills.

If you call the Dodge Dealer what you need to ask for is the cams out of a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. The part numbers are #53021411AB and #53021412AB. Just give them those numbers as well so they know what they're looking for. It seems as if the H.O. Cams have risen in price over the last year in the United States. Re: The Revo's not coming in 33" size... the 285/75/16 is actually a 33x11.5x16 inch tire so you may want to look into that.

Wouldn't the 285/75/16's be 33 inches by 11.5 inches anyway? Seems that would cause rubbing to me? You said to stay away from 33x12.5x16's but the 285/75/16's are really 33x11.5x16 anyhow? Or am I reading this all wrong? The size that I was looking into were the 275/70/16's as they're only a touch wider than stock. Thoughts?

I guess what I should have said it that the Revo's don't come in the 33x12.5x15 size. I think that I would have gotten those if I had a choice. If you wanted to split hairs the 285/75/16 is actually 32.8x11.2x16. I don't see how that wouldn't rub on a stock truck, but hey what do I know.

H.O. cams - Do you know if the price has changed that much in Canada? I would greatly appreciate it if you could check for me. Don't suppose your salesman buddy could get you another set?

I sold my 285x75x16 BFG AT's to Arthur form this board. He is stock 4x4, he had to trim some I believe and turned up the TB's a little. The 285x75x16 are really 32.8x11.2x16. Use this site to convert sizes.

The size you mention 275x70x16 is a 31.3x10.83x16 tire. That will work great for you. I thought you were lifting or looking into the 285x75x16's.

Tracy is right Revo's don't come in a 33 which is also why I did not get them. I am not looking for a wide tire so a 10.5 is what I am looking at.

With the 16" rims you have to order by metric numbers (285x75x16)and for the 15" rims you order tires by the Inch (33x10.5x15). Sucks! For me I wanted a street AT rated M and S and I wanted height over width. I went with a 255x85x16 AT. It is taller than the 33x10.5x15 MT I have but not as wide.

My personal opinion is the 285x75x16 is the best size for a body or suspension lifted truck. You can stay on stock rims and BS, Frame rub is not there nor should you have to trim much. You can wheel with no worries. I think you have to trim a little with any of these sizes.
Please keep in mind I have different issues with rubbing with the suspension lift staying on stock rims and BS.

I've had the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos on my 1997 dakota for about 7 months and 5,000 miles. They are much improved over stock goodyears. Ride is smooth, excellent traction in rain, mud and snow. The tires also have excellent road manners and are only slightly louder than the stock goodydears, but are still very quiet considering the aggressive tread. Tires also are great at resisting hydroplaning. If you're looking for a tire with good manners on or off road, you won't be dissapointed with the REVOS :-)

I ran Duellers on an F150 for several years. I've never found a tire that impressed me more than the Duellers. They gave me a comfortable quiet ride and in snow got excellent traction. I only put 20k miles on em before I sold the truck but they showed damn near no wear and that's impressive for a tire that rides that well.

When my Goodyears wear out and I need to replace them I have no doubt I'll be turning back to the reliable Duellers..
