Subject: greasing the front end IP: Logged
Message: I tried to grease the zerks in the front suspension today. As I started to pump in some new grease, it started to spill out little holes around the rubber thing. What does this mean?

Message: Generally, the seals on the front suspension expand a little when you put grease in thru the zerk. If you put too much grease in, the grease has to go somewhere after the rubber seals expand to capacity, and the grease sneaks by under the seal. Its not good as the escaped grease collects dirt and makes things look bad, and possibly reducing the integrity of the seal against water too. Its not the end of the world though. When I grease my trucks, I watch the rubber part expand as I'm doing it. I put about 2 hand pumps in each fitting every 6 months with my one handed gun. Off roading I grease more often.
