Subject: Hard Gear Shifting? IP: Logged
Message: Every once in a while my Dak shifts hard into gear from Park to Drive or Reverse to Drive. It almost feels like a clutch popping on manuals when you shift gears. There's also some bit of noise. Usually the gears shifts are smooth and quiet.
Also, whenever I slow down from drive to stop, the engine RPM jumps by about 200-300...almost like I'm stepping on the gas a little bit. What the hell is going on?

Message: I recently changed the transmission fluid. How can I verify that proper transmission fluid was used? Shouldn't it be AT-4 for a 2000 Dakota?

Message: Both things you are describing are normal. The noise and jerking that you're feeling is just slack in the drivetrain being taken up when power is applied.
The revving that you're talking about is just the truck shifting from 2nd to 1st. Also normal.
Hope this helps!
