Well it's finally time for me to get new spark plugs but the more posts I read the more confused I get. The only plugs I know I DON'T want is the Autolite 3923.

So which brand makes the best standard style plug, Bosch, NGK, Autolite or Champion?

Does it even matter which plug I get, it is just a spark?

I have a 2001 V6 with a K&N Drop In and a Dynomax muffler

Plug is a Plug is a Plug, sort of.

I just took the factory champions out of my 4.7 after 30k miles and the gap was worn about 3 or 4 thousandths from the gap in the new Bosch platinums I put in. It was a very noticeable difference from gap to gap, however the hp gain was Very minimal, due to the serious ignition system on this motor.

The main thing is the spark's heat, if it's wrong, you can have trouble, if it's right, the NGK , Bosch, Autolite, Champion, Denso will be within 99.8% of one another with the proper plug on the dyno.
The Key is that some wear out faster than others, platinums last a good little while, and I recommend them over a regular electrode plug.

Don't believe anything you hear about plus-4's or Split fires and all those $4 spark plugs, the ONLY dyno proven plugs are the IRIDIUM from Denso, and those are $10 apiece I think. Those are shown to gain like 10 hp under the right conditions (turbo-charged/sc'd app's).

How come you dont like the autolights? I have been running them for over a year now, just put my 2nd set in, and love them. First I ran them with a supercharger, now im running them with nitrous.

I don't really see much difference b/t the Autolites and the bosch platinum plug except the 50 cent difference! I don't really have any preference on brand just quality to price ratio.
I definitely prefer Amsoil over Mobil 1 though.

Old School Bosch Platnium $1.99 at Auto Zone! You can leave these in for 50,000-80,000 miles no problem. If you want to forget about them for 100,000 miles use either Delco Double Platniums $9.00 or Bosch Plus 4's of NGK douple Platnium! I have had nothing but problems with autolite platinum plugs. I have never tried autolites double platinum plugs though. If you do decide to get autolite platinums Walmart has the cheapest price on them!

my personal choice is the champion TRUCK plugs. Have them in both my dakota and my wife's cherokee. they have an anodized shell to keep them from rusting into the heads, and heavier porcelin around the electrodes and body. we have them at AutoZone for around 2.50 a piece. no problems with miss fires or detonation in either truck. Hope this helps.... Bill

Bosch +4's work great in my 99 V6, engine runs smooth and gained 1/2 mpg.
