Subject: Will 265/75 Tires fit IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota CC 4x4 Tire and Handling Package with 31/10.5/15 tires(15x8 rims). I now have 16x8 inch rims from from a 2002 Durango and I'm wanting to put 265/75/16 tires on my Truck. I was wondering if anyone else was running 265/75/16 tires on a 4x4 dakota - without a lift kit - an have they had any "rubbing" problems. I would like to hear any "first hand" experiences.

Message: Yes, I have a 01 cc slt plus 4x4. Mine came with 16 inch rims, after the first week I got rid of those crappy Goodyears, and for two years I have been running LT 265/75/16 tires, pretty aggressive tread, no problems.

Fairly aggressive tread.
only rubbing I've noticed is at half turn in reverse. Going forward there is no rubbing.

Message: On the other hand, I have 265/70-16 BFG's on my '02 and I get rubbing with those at full lock. I don't think the 265/75's would work.

Message: Ben -- they should fit a 4x2 with no trouble. There is plenty of clearance in the wheel well for this height and width.
I am about to put this size tire (w/ 15" rims) on my 2000 4.7 4x2.
Anyone know about recalibrating the spedometer? My current tires are the 255/65/15 that came stock. One dealer said I should come in and re-calibrate and another said not to worry about it.

Message: on a 2x4 I don't think they will fit, I put 265-70-17 mt on my dak before I put 3inches of height on it and they rubbed.

Message: Interesting. The 17" rims makes those about 31.6" tall. The 265/75/15 is 30.5" so it might fit without lifting.
Where did they rub? Maybe I should look at 265/70/15.

Message: I put a set of 16's on my 2000 QC 4x4 along with some 265/70/16's. I actually put on a 265/75 just to see how it would fit. For my taste, I thought it was too close for comfort. For street driving it probably wouldn't be a problem. However, I didn't want to take a chance of fudging up the front tires or bumper while 4wheelin with the tweaking and torqueing that goes on
Here's the numbers on the two tires. The first set of numbers come from tirerack.com on the set of Michelin LTX M/S 265/70/16 that I have on my truck along with the same tire in the 75 series.
265/70SR16 10.8" (width of tire) 30.6"(Diameter)
265/75SR16 11.5" (width of tire) 31.7"(Diameter)
These numbers come from Miata.net
Spec Sidewall Rad Dia Cir
265/70 7.3in 15.3in 30.6in
265/75 7.8in 15.8in 31.6in

Message: OK. So that makes some sense. If the 265/75/16 were too close for comfort, the 265/75/15 should work okay.
I think maybe I'll use 31x10.5x15 -- they're about a quarter inch shorter than 265/75. A little bit fatter too.
Thanks.

Message: I think maybe torsion bar??? For two years I have been running LT 265/75/16 tires, while I don't rock crawl, climb waterfalls, mud bog etc. I do spend alot of time offroad. I have never had a problem with rubbing in 4wd or 2wd. But, guys on the off road board have threads about cranking the torsion bars 1/2 to 1 inch(lifted and non-lifted) to fit certain tire sizes

Message: I haven't cranked the torsion bars, and I get no rubbing at full lock. Only in reverse at half turn, when the edge of the tread is closest to the front bumper.
I'll try to break out my digital in the next day or so and get some close-up pics of the tires.
For now, take a look here:

Message: Just to let everyone know, I went ahead and got the 265/75/16 Dueler AT REVO's for my truck (2000 Dakota CC 4x4 Tire & Handline package) So far so good. NO RUBBING. Not much clearence between front tires and front bumper - But no rubbing - Even when going over large bumps or turning to the wheels to the max either way. Just thought I would share with the rest of the group.

Message: The 265/75/16 tires are 31.6 in diameter and practically the same width as the 15" tires you have now. You shouldn't have any problems if the backspacing and offset are the same between the 15" and 16" wheels. You can also upgrade to the bigger disc setup that they started using in '02 or '03.
