Subject: check engine light is on IP: Logged
Message: The other day i was realy stupid and drove my truck through a BIG puddle, splashing water and mud up over the truck. Water got down into the plugs and fouled the motor bad. I only lived a mile and a half from where this happened, so I drove it home with only 1 or 2 cylinders working. Bad idea, by the time I got home the cat and muffler where glowing red, and the truck was shooting fire out the turn down. I dryed out the plugs and replaced the cap and rotor. the truck drives fine now, but the check engine light is on and I'm getting about 14 mpg. I think it would be the oxygen sensors, do you guys agree or should I check something else?

Message: I got my truck high centered and crushed the evaporator tank.
if there is not a seal in the fuel system the check engine light will come on.
Before you take it to the dealer make sure to get the mud out of the frame, I didn't and they would not warrenty any damage that was reported that day.
I got lucky and was able to replace the part myself.
Also check your gas cap.
most common problem for engine light on.

go there and do what it says for the year, note: for 97 and up(which you have) between codes you must cycle key just about as fast as you can or nothing will show up or happen, it will just go back to normal and youll have to do it again, and when all the codes are done being displayed a 55 will be the last one, thats how you know you got them all, hope this helps, laterz

Message: P0442 is a Evap Medium Leak. check your gas cap, make sure the lines to the purge solenoid arent cracking and coming off and check your Leak detection pump and all the lines and make sure the canister is not cracked.

Message: Cool, thx! Fortunately I only have the one code and since I will be starting my Rancho install tomorrow night and the Dak will be up on a lift, I will be checking the lines and tank for any problems. It's still under warranty so they will fix it if I find something wrong.
Thx again,
Bob

Message: Well cap seems kinda loose and I reset the puter, light staying on:( don't see any cracked lines or housing although it is dirty as hell under my truck so who knows. It is still under warranty so it looks like they will need to figure it out for me.
As a side note, I had to fill up today and checked my mileage as I usually do, I have gained almost 3mpg more than I have ever got? maybe I should leave it alone lol. Any idea why I would see such an increase in mpg from an evap leak?
