Subject: Transfer Case Disaster IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 QC, 4.7L, 5sp, 4WD. My transfer case is shot and is being rebuilt at a cost of $800. I'm beside myself! The truck only has 42K miles on it and the transfer case is blown. How can this be? I don't beat on it or take it off-roading. I only have used it during major snow storms and never on dry roads. I put it into 4WD the last New Hampshire snowstorm, and it sounded like someone let a bag of marbles loose inside it. My "Friendly New England Dodge Dealer" (Bonniville and Sons) basically said that because the warranty has expired (3yr-36K), it is my problem.
Help folks! Is this an isolated incident, or are these common problems? I will be calling the area Customer Service Representative as soon as the truck is fixed and it would be nice if I knew that this happens a lot, so maybe I can get some help covering the cost of this repair.
I had a Toyota before this and never had any trouble with it. I decided to buy American this time to support our country and it has already cost me a set of front rotors and brake pads at 30K miles and now this a couple of months after the warranty expired. This can't be right!

bitch at them till your cant bitch anymore!
tell them you are a dodgedakotas member and you will print your problem worldwide!
what did they say was the reason?all they would have to tell me is that you used part time 4x4 on dry pavement and i would go balistic!
the first thing my friends at the dealership told me when i bought my truck with 50,000 miles on it was to buy the extended warrenty.good thing i did 5,000 miles later the trans went bad seals valve body.
tony sorry to hear this and good luck with the reps!
p.s. get the extended warrenty even if its just the drive train like i have.i think its like 900.
it will give you another 3 year 36,000

Message: Sorry to hear that. I know we Americans make it hard to buy American. The DC brand is now German though but I see your point. I have an 86 Toyota that has been in the family since new and a 1982 Toyota as well. Both vechiles have been to dealer ship once and very few things have been replaced on either one. My 2001 dodge has been to the dealer six times as much in 2 years then my Toy Toyotas in over 17 years. The 1982 has been in the family since new as well so that is 20 years all origanal power train. So far I can live with the Dodge but I will probably never buy American again if I can help it. Their are too many little things that when added together are just too disapointing. My Dodges main attractive points are cost and style! I am going to try to keep it for at least 10 years if it stays together but I doubt it will. I understand your frustration. I am going to have to fight with dealer to fix bitc solinoid. I get tired of haveing to fight with Dodge!!
